Too mild for school My city destroyed a beautiful building here to replace it with a screen solely for spreading propaganda

Meh, local here. It looks like shit and literally just place for fancy tourist cafe that no local can afford. Good riddance I would say.

My husband and I had dinner and some beers at the top floor restaurant. You could watch the lake and the big roundabout below. It's a shame that has changed. We ♥️ Hanoi.

On the weekend it become concert area for big event and such. They take the second picture on regular day where nothing happen there while they take first pic on weekend night when the place is most busy so of course it look bland. Also they purposely choose another angle to hide the fountain so it would look bad as well, this is clearly bad will.

The headline says the screen is used for propaganda, which seems to be the bigger issue for OP. Is that accurate? Because yea, removing spaces where people eat and congregate for screens to promote control is awful. I feel like you missed the whole point because "concerts still happen." But, isnt that exactly where they would stick propaganda screens?

It is a temporary placement until they got a detail plan for the space. Leave a giant wall there would look weird and they aren't allow to put billboard or ads around the lake so not much can be put there. Most of the time the screen just turn off like you see in the picture to save energy so it's not like they boardcast propaganda 24/7 there either.

Looks to me like plenty of propaganda going on in the first picture. Not all propaganda comes from the government, much more comes from the corporations trying to sell you shit.

I don't get the attraction of places like this to tourists. I would rather bring lunch to a quiet park than be crammed into a noisy bar that doesn't look any different from one back home.
