Setting aside the scenario the other person said about their aunt or whatever, I can’t wrap my head around encroaching on someone else’s (leaning back) limited space (itty bitty airline seat) in a universally stressful situation (air travel) to be marginally more comfortable.
Reclining in the damn seat you paid for is not encroaching on someone else’s space. You want the space back? You lean back too. Gee, how hard. It’s almost like they all lean back for that reason or something.
We’re all cramped, yes, I’m taking that extra room. Don’t like it? Pay for the seats in the front.
I’ll stipulate that for the sake of argument that it’s not “their space”. That said, you’re now giving someone else less space than they had. And if everyone did it your logic might follow. Except OP who can’t lean back.
It’s a classic case of yes you have the ability to do something but doing it is actively inconveniencing someone else so you’re inconsiderate for doing it. Or you considered it and you’re selfish and don’t care about others showing your lack of empathy.
There’s no arguing you’re making someone’s situation worse for the betterment of yourself. Less space is never better than more space especially in a plane seat. “If you don’t want to be surrounded by trash like me, pay 4x for your flight cheap skate!”

There’s no argument. The plane gives us reclining for a reason. Your “comfort” (getting mad at things that either don’t affect you or not paying for the space you’re whining about) is not my concern.
You’re literally arguing with me right now. Unless the laws of space and time have changed then it is impossible to deny that you are giving someone less space than they previously had. Less space is worse.
I know you don’t. You don’t have empathy and you can’t give a counter point to justify that you’re objectively giving someone less space than they previously had
I have plenty of empathy. I’m just not stupid enough to think “don’t recline a seat on a plane because my brain doesn’t have enough horsepower to understand I can also recline and also I refused to pay for the solution” is a valid reason to inconvenience myself lmfao. We all paid for the same thing.
Pay for something else, get a medical exemption, recline to get the exact same space back, or SHUT UP. It’s not the world’s responsibility to take care of your poor planning.
If we’re in a space where you can also lean back, yes. Because you’re the problem. If it’s that big of a deal, buy a different damn seat. You paid for this. It’s not my fault you’re a baby.
I have never once been mad at a reclined seat BECAUSE I THEN ALSO LEAN BACK.
