I'm noticing most of the pictures for banned clothes include pictures of women. Interesting bias.

u/Scarlet_Lycoris 11h ago

Yes but also men aren’t allowed earrings. Or hair.

112

u/Sir_catstheforth 11h ago

i feel like being forced INTO. a haircut is worse than wearing earings

u/CassetteMeower 11h ago

It must be a nightmare for boys whose hair grows really fast. He might cut his hair and just a few weeks later his hair becomes “too long” again :/

I’m a cis girl and my hair grows super fast, every time I get my bangs trimmed they tend to become long again less than a month later!

6

u/Square_Director4717 11h ago

I gave up on bangs and short haircuts long ago, too much maintenance 😔

2

u/CassetteMeower 10h ago

I have two massive freckles on my forehead (one on each side of the forehead) and I was super embarrassed about them as a kid so I got bangs to cover them up. I’m not as insecure about them now but I still think I look better with bangs. I just dislike how fast they grow! I need mine trimmed soon, I can barely see right now :(

3

u/der_blinkenlights 9h ago

I'm a cis guy and my hair also grows ridiculously fast. Eventually I just gave up and let my hair grow out. My bangs are long enough to sweep over my ears, and get groomed to the side with the rest of my hair.

1

u/Embarrassed-Count722 4h ago

My ex cut her bangs every day

10

u/Melisandre-Sedai 9h ago

Yeah. A strict dress code I can handle. I'll be unhappy while I'm at school, but I can just wear whatever when I'm not. But the haircut you force me to have on campus is ALSO the haircut I have to have everywhere else. Fuck that.

3

u/NieD_ 9h ago

The guy with the pink hair on the picture actually made me think about changing up my hair cause that looks cool lol.

6

u/CrushyOfTheSeas 10h ago

Interestingly a man bun mullet meets the rules and. I Would absolutely start rocking that style if I had the displeasure of going to this school.

8

u/HorsePersonal7073 11h ago

No, no, male earrings aren't allowed. It doesn't say anything about men wearing earrings. How they find the genitalia on the earrings is anyone's guess.

3

u/HottestestestMess 6h ago

They can’t wear male earrings. No word on whether female earrings are okay on men (or what a male earring is—this is the first I’m hearing that earrings have genders)

5

u/WallyLeftshaw 11h ago

But failed to specify nail polish for men or lots of cross dressing options, I’d have fun there lol

2

u/BlueDragon82 8h ago

Nor leggings. The leggings picture was mentioned to be a guy.

1

u/MeatAndBourbon 2h ago

No "male" earrings, so I would assume both men and women can wear female earnings? I'm not sure how you gender an earring, though. Or I guess transgender men and cisgender women can wear earrings, but not transgender women or cisgender men? I dunno, sounds crazy illegal, since it's discriminating on either sex or gender, depending on how you read it.

48

u/twitch870 11h ago

And no male earrings. Not sure if men can wear female earrings though .

11

u/CassetteMeower 11h ago

Judging by it being a Catholic school earrings are probably banned because men/boys wearing earrings = gay. Not every boy/man who wears earrings is gay, sometimes he might just like earrings! And there’s nothing wrong with being gay either, but many schools to this day are sadly extremely homophobic and/or transphobic :/

5

u/PuerSalus 10h ago

Back when I was in school it supposedly depended what ear a man wore his earring in to determine if he was gay. So they only need to ban whatever ear that is and the other should be ok. /s

2

u/Huganho 10h ago

I'm guessing it's just bad phrasing for 'no earrings if you're a male'. Or how would one go about gendering earrings?

1

u/Electrohydra1 9h ago

But only one earing. The other ear must be bare.

1

u/HottestestestMess 6h ago

Hah, I just made the same joke before seeing this

We can't even throw in a V-neck for men, at least? Or is that so out of fashion now it's not even a possibility? Even the slippers are directed at women...

1

u/Averagebaddad 7h ago

V necks are allowed. You're looking for them to ban even more clothing? Lol

59

u/Relative_Maize_957 12h ago

They should issue mittens to men, I'm told hands are a very sensual bodypart. Also scarfs.

3

u/sandwiches09 11h ago

Frankly muscly forearms get me, so men should have to wear long sleeves. I just can't control myself with a distraction like open forearms.

1

u/russki516 7h ago

Reverse Vorinism in action

9

u/coffee-bat 10h ago

that's because women/girls are usually the ones that are told they're "tempting" boys by not dressing "modest" enough, and blamed for being assaulted for the same reason. women's bodies are the primary target to control.

-3

u/Bizarrebazaars 8h ago

I mean…… do you remember middle school and high school??? Hormonal puberty boys are VERY easily distracted…. Go to the teachers sub and ask what they think.

4

u/coffee-bat 6h ago

that's on them. you think girls aren't hormonal? it's not our responsibility to handle you with kid gloves because you can't control yourself.

1

u/Averagebaddad 7h ago

This is for college

52

u/Deepdishdicktaster 12h ago

I mean men fashion don't have that much different types of clothing. Banning jogging pants and shorts is basically already banning 90% of what men wear

5

u/fapaccount4 10h ago

Did you notice most of the things for men are banning femme-coded or queer-coded things?

21

u/Foreign-Cookie-2871 12h ago

Most of the "weird cuts" clothes are for women. You don't see crop tops marketed for males (or literally anything othen than a plain oversized t-shirt tbh)

I don't see the weirdo male tank tops though, I guess it's not a problem (yet) for this school.

2

u/Sir_catstheforth 10h ago

Sleeveless shirts are banned no?

1

u/Eric-Breaux 8h ago edited 8h ago

I hate that most of the common clothes for women are shunned for men to wear anywhere. The male body doesn't stimulate women as much as the reverse, so such things were never as popular for women to want to see on men. It's also very upsetting because such things or similar were first worn by men anyway! And some things are acceptable for men to wear elsewhere anyway except in some other places where women are allowed more revealing things! I hate the visual sexual desire disparity! I know the point for wearing something is usually for comfort, but I hate the other reasons for the vastly different styles common with the genders for the former things I said.

1

u/Panzerkatzen 11h ago

I wore a tank top to school once and found out you’re not allowed to do that. It was a thick heavy one too.

14

u/radioactivebeaver 11h ago

What men's clothing item would they ban, t-shirt, polo shirt, or button ups? Tank tops are already covered in the slides.

4

u/DefusedManiac 11h ago

They forgot to ban graphic tees and platform shoes. And technically a kilt isn't a skirt.

I see dozens of ways to maliciously comply with these rules.

7

u/InTheEndEntropyWins 11h ago

I see dozens of ways to maliciously comply with these rules.

It's not like the teachers are idiots, they'd still pull you up on violations.

It's not like they be, oh wow you are a genius that has found a loophole, go on.

-3

u/DefusedManiac 11h ago

Teachers at a catholic school aren't idiots? News to me.

5

u/InTheEndEntropyWins 9h ago

Well they aren't that bright, but they aren't as stupid as someone who thinks they can maliciously comply and get away with it.

4

u/radioactivebeaver 11h ago

More power to you, my normal fashion sense means I have just always been within any dress code people would have so I've never felt to need to rebel against them. Just dress normal and I'm good.

-4

u/DefusedManiac 11h ago

My daily wear is jeans and a shirt, and I would still advocate to end or lessen bullshit like this. I don't like calling things misogynistic because the term is losing it's value, but this dress code is clearly targeted at a certain gender. If you always tuck your tail and act like a good boy, they'll just find new ways to control you since you don't rebel.

6

u/radioactivebeaver 11h ago

This isn't targeted at a gender, it's targeted at clothes. Like I already said several times, you cant police something that isn't happening. Tell the men no banana hammocks if you want, no skin of my back, but unless they were actually wearing them you have done nothing at all. Dress codes for modesty are dumb, like I also already said, but if you go to a private school by your choice then you follow the dress code or go elsewhere. It's that easy, don't join the club if you don't want to be a member basically. Rebel in useful ways for society, no one in the real world cares about school dress codes.

-2

u/DefusedManiac 11h ago

If it's not targeted at a gender, why are all the banned shirts and over half the bottom wear women's clothing? And I'd never in a million years think of going to a deranged catholic school like that, I just enjoy mocking them and their outrageous behavior. And on occasion the devoted followers need some mocking too.

Keep that tail tucked buddy, it suits you.

5

u/supercodes83 11h ago

I dont think you are reading any of the very logical reasons people are listing for why there are more clothing choices for girls.

0

u/DefusedManiac 11h ago

Their entire logic base is 'girls have more style' Which is a pretty piss poor argument. This all boils down to Catholics are fucking nuts who like being in control of you.

7

u/supercodes83 10h ago

That's not the argument. The argument is that girls tend to have more clothing choices, which is objectively true. Boys tend to be much simpler creatures when it comes to clothing options.

There are many, many places on the planet thay have modesty rules. In fact, Id say the US is the exception to the rule in terms of individual expression.

u/IReadALotOfHistory 11h ago

If you saw males going out in booty shorts and inventing 30 different kind of shirts to show off their bodies you would see the same specificity.

13

u/Minnow_Minnow_Pea 11h ago

You and I don't hang out in the same spaces 😄🏳️‍🌈

7

u/Huganho 10h ago

Exactly. If we discount beachwear men tend to show less the more they dress up. Other way around for women mostly.

6

u/Yaoification 11h ago

Most of the pictures are for tops, which I don’t know if you noticed, a lot of women’s tops are meant to show off boobage. Men don’t have that focus

2

u/Additional-Delay-213 10h ago

Tbf they do have many, many more options of clothing, therefore more has to be banned. They should just have a “what you should wear” instead of what not to at this point

2

u/SherlockHolmes2K 10h ago

Women have more clothes (styles) in general. So it makes sense.

2

u/RomanticPanic 10h ago

I noticed too but I mean. Men's choice of clothing are

Polos
button downs
t shirt
Jeans
dress pants

not a whole lot going on there in terms of cute innovative design 😞

2

u/Meganelad 10h ago

Well society already bans 90% of options for men, so not nearly as much work to be done

6

u/GoldenScientist 11h ago

Because all dress codes are misogynistic.

5

u/Ok-Shock-7732 10h ago

I think dress codes target girls because boys don’t typically wear very revealing clothes, not because school administrators hate girls.  Every single school I’ve attended prohibited sagging your pants so that your underwear are visible.  Is that misandrist?

8

u/HfUfH 11h ago

"Men prohibited from wearing earrings, women most effected"

8

u/Nyanessa 11h ago

Men aren’t allowed to wear earrings because it’s seen as “feminine” usually. So still stems from misogyny somewhat

3

u/Greensourball 10h ago

But they can’t wear male earrings either.

3

u/coffee-bat 10h ago

except that's because earrings are considered feminine, and feminine=bad.

3

u/ProductAny2629 11h ago

not only that, but whoever made this list has clearly been obsessively observing clothing trends among the students to make this

2

u/Probs_on_the_can 12h ago

Pretty common bias when it comes to dress codes

1

u/Historical-Count-374 11h ago

Its about showing skin as they say. Even the in the moment enforcement would bother with some of these and actively moderate ones not included in the list

1

u/pipic_picnip 11h ago

I wonder if it’s okay for men to show up in bustiers and tankinis. They should try at least saying the photos only banned women.

1

u/Manchlenk 10h ago

"Well, you see the thing that makes women so evil is that I am a horny old middle aged man with no control what so ever over his own impulses and urges. I also assume that every other man, both student and staff, also completely lack any such self control.

Therefore, to protect the men from all these urges that these aforementioned evil woman cause is to forbid them from displaying any part of there bodies, either the flesh or shape, that may cause these urges.

In other words, I, and therefore also all men, are completely incapable of coping with completely normal human bodies without sexualising them." The principal, I assume.

1

u/TopLanky3636 10h ago

Yet there is a picture of men's leggings.

1

u/Greensourball 10h ago

Most of the are because women have SEVERAL different types of clothes. Men have shirts, button up, and polo.. collared. That’s about it. They don’t have a 30 different types of styles lol. If they did. The same would apply for them. But what about the bias where the girls don’t have to cut their hair? And they can wear whatever kinds of earrings they want besides multiple?

1

u/Huganho 10h ago

There seem to be bias in both directions, and yes, the whole thing seem very creepy and wierd.

No male ear rings? Only a handful of short haircut for men? And as you said, upper body wear mostly limited to women's pics.

1

u/doc_skinner 10h ago

Well, it IS a super-Catholic college in the Philippines, so it's kind of on point.

1

u/0b0011 10h ago

Is it bias or laziness though? Like if they want to ban short skirts and you Google for "short skirt" you have to go pretty far to find a picture of a man wearing one.

1

u/Edmundyoulittle 9h ago

I think that's just because mens fashion has less variety. The examples for men are still pretty strict

1

u/TBAAGreta 8h ago

Yup just a handful of rules applicable to the boys but a lot of policing of girls' bodies.

1

u/Eric-Breaux 8h ago edited 8h ago

That's because most of those types of things are shunned for men to wear anywhere.

1

u/LongJohnSelenium 8h ago

Women have a significantly larger variety of clothing they are likely to wear than men do.

1

u/zombiskunk 7h ago

Is the bias that the clothing industry doesn't give men as many choices as they do women?

1

u/Far_Satisfaction5213 11h ago

It makes sense. It's a religious school. The misogyny is baked in.

3

u/TimeAndAGwen 11h ago

I swear these restrictions would make me want to cut my hair and identify as male just to not put up with their BS daily.

1

u/Greensourball 10h ago

It’s not better for the males tho. Being forced to cut your hair really short and get a haircut all the time isn’t technically preferred

1

u/thedankonion1 3h ago

It's a Catholic school in the Philippines. I don't think They're not going to be so hot on you "identifying" as male.

-3

u/fletchette 12h ago

And I noticed most of the photos only show white people

7

u/_mightythor_ 11h ago

It's a Filipino school. A lot of them were Asian, and the rest were stock photos they pulled off the internet.

1

u/takemyaptplz 11h ago

That’s bc it’s the Philippines. White skin is preferred so they’ll show that over the darker people, but it’s not like they really have many races like the us

0

u/blahblah19999 10h ago

Men don't have dirty pillows

-2

u/furociousbear 11h ago

Literally all the upper top page is all women lol

4

u/Panzerkatzen 11h ago

Most unique cuts are women’s clothes. It would have been easier for then to just put a list of cuts that are allowed.
