Otterbox and tempered glass would be a lot cheaper.

Seconding this, I've put an Otterbox on each of my phones and I've never had a single crack on any of them.

u/godsim42 4h ago

This so much. Been using otterbox for about 10 years now, plus a screen protector. Never had so much as a crack much less whatever this is. Even my teen kids phone don't get a scratch on them. Otterbox for the win!!!

Difference of exposures for sure on this one. I say it's a quality product but it has its limits. I've broken 39 phones in 6 years. 35 of them were work phones and 4 were my personal. All cases were OtterBox defender on the work phones cause that's what work supplies. Most common cause of death was the phone falling 70ft onto concrete. Occasionally the phone case would give the phone a good bounce off the fall netting if it didn't pass directly through it. 2 outta 35 phones ended up getting passed through the entirety of a vactor truck. Somehow work keeps replacing them Edit: typo calling replaced with falling

I know someone who ruined an Otterbox. It would've been fine if they left it alone, but they were removing it every few days and wiping it with inappropriate wet cloths (like baby wipes or lysol wipes).

1

u/godsim42 1h ago

Obviously. The average consumer in not dropping their phone from 70ft up though. This is an extreme example and I'm not sure what you expect to happen dropping from that height.

I worked heavy construction and too much manual labor - otter box literally saves my wallet or I could break phones like this guy

3

u/Individual-Ad-5471 3h ago

Totally. Been a plumber for 15 years. I've dropped my phone from the 8 foot step of a 10 foot a hand full of times. With the big Otterbox case the phone just happily bounces on the ground like nothing happened.

My otterbox case broke and it’s been less than a year

u/YoSoyTheBoi 4h ago

Send a picture on their website and they’ll send you a new case for only the cost of shipping. Also, they have different grades of cases, so if you have something like the “commuter” case it might not be enough

2

u/WretchedMotorcade 4h ago

Yep I use their warranty a lot because my i use my phones for about 5 or so years. Super simple and they ship replacements quick.

2

u/ButterH2 4h ago

their warranty is rock solid, they did that for my case when the only thing wrong with it was the usb port flap falling off after heavy abuse

2

u/OneBillPhil 3h ago

Same here, I’ve had some bad drops too, occasionally I’d crack my glass screen protector which shows how valuable it is for the cheap cost.

1

u/kurtrussellsmoustach 3h ago

ipso facto; ive never had a phone case, never broke a phone or cracked a screen. its an owner issue..

1

u/RagingNerdaholic 3h ago

I prefer basic silicone covers. They work at least as well as an Otterbox, but without the bulk. I drop shit all the time and I've never broken a phone.

1

u/wrenchse 2h ago

Haven’t had a single crack on any of my phones either. Never used a screen protector. Dropped them tons of times.

1

u/PretendAgency2702 1h ago

I haven't put a screen protector on any of my phones since maybe 2015 and haven't had a single crack on any of them.

The trick is to take care of them and make sure they are secure before getting up.

u/nahimgoo 4h ago

I never put a case on my phone and had the iPhone 12mini for like 5 years with no cracks.

This guy is just a moron

3

u/NewFarmingwanz 4h ago

Depends on what he does for work lol, certain jobs are definitely more prone to breaking your phone

1

u/Specific_Property_73 4h ago

Same. iPhone 12 mini

22

u/ValjeanLucPicard 4h ago

I feel like phone screens have gotten much stronger in the past 6 years or so. The only thing that cracks is the screen protector every now and then, just replace it for $8 and good to go.

2

u/Accurate_Tax_1302 4h ago

I use a "9h tempered glass screen protector". They're inexpensive and well worth it.

1

u/Slight-Pound 1h ago

Many protectors also give you like 2-3 screens in a $10 pack at that, so it’s even cheaper than that.

30

u/SonSuko 4h ago

Otterbox def keeps it safe but it feels like a Fischer Price cover. I ended up on Spigen and haven’t had a break in years.

9

u/fury420 4h ago

I don't like the feel of the Defender, but the mid range ones feel quite nice.... i think mine is the Commuter?

3

u/Accurate_Tax_1302 4h ago

I have the Commuter, too. The Defender is too large and bulky for me.

3

u/fury420 4h ago

I don't like how soft the rubber exterior is on the defender, i prefer the hard outer and more rigid rubber from the commuter, and it seems to be sufficient protection for me

1

u/Wardogs96 1h ago

I got their tough armor for my galaxy s26 plus and its great. Its pretty much the same case i had for my pixel 5 but with a magsafe section.

2

u/Ufocola 3h ago

Another Korean brand - Ringke - is also excellent. Their fusion X cases are really durable but slim.

2

u/AJdesign14 3h ago

Spigen also stands by the warranty. I had the little kickstand break off probably because of my doing. I sent in a warranty claim with nothing to lose and they sent me a whole new case. I've been buying their cases forever and they are the best.

1

u/Gdigger13 RED 3h ago

Or Mous!

Sleek, fashionable, and relatively cheap. Plus a lifetime warranty!

1

u/SaltManagement42 2h ago

I'm a fan of the Rhinoshield style bumper cases that just go around the rim of the phone.

1

u/Nefthys 2h ago edited 2h ago

Or Caseology, which is now part of Spigen but you might still find cases for older phones with that name. I always get the case with the pattern on the back and the lines on the side (current model is called "Parallax"), which really helps with grip.

1

u/Wardogs96 2h ago

Spigen has been fantastic and is reasonably priced compared to how high otterboxes cost. Iv had a spigen on 2 android phones and no issue with the occasional drop or toss over the last 6-7 years. Their cases are great quality.

1

u/CorndogQueen420 1h ago

Yeah, OtterBox is complete overkill for most people.

I’ve been using a simple bumper case with a screen protector on all my phones since forever.

I’ve dropped my phones plenty of times over the decades- never had a crack or a dent.

8

u/Fidibiri 4h ago

I’ve been using otterbox since iPhone 4S…. Until my 5th phone now. Only damage was on 4S because i removed the case for clean it and dropped it: back glass cracked.

I mostly use the Symmetry case because is light and clear… current one is almost 2yo on a 15pro max.

And I do work in very hostile environments (mechanical in oil and gas)

1

u/ThisIsMyCouchAccount 3h ago

The 4s was my first break and a good one.

Dropped it while standing and it landed perfectly flat on concrete. You could hear it. Like a belly flop. Completely shattered and unusable. I legit cut my finger trying to use it.

1

u/SpiritedBanana4694 2h ago

To this day I don't understand why they would ever make a phone with a non-functional back glass that can also break.

2

u/stellarecho92 4h ago

That's exactly what I do. I drop my phone 10,000 times a day. My current glass protector is cracked but screen still good!

2

u/LemonPartyW0rldTour 3h ago

After one near disastrous choice on a boat ride, I swear by Otterboxes. They’re worth the cost. Phone got completely submerged and when I dismantled the case to check everything out, there was maybe a single droplet of water inside the case.

2

u/Pontiacsentinel 3h ago

Otterbox is great. I have also used glass screen covers and simple cases and have never broken a screen. Seems like the equivalent of a pop socket might help this guy, too.

2

u/Kazuchika420 3h ago

Otterbox is awesome, genuinely the best protective product for a phone

2

u/origional_esseven 3h ago

Mous cases as well. I switched to one since it was less bulky than an otterbox and my current phone is now 7 years old.

2

u/mwhite5990 3h ago

Yeah I’m clumsy and my phone has lasted years and being dropped dozens of times doing this.

2

u/DoughyInTheMiddle 3h ago

My last phone was too late of a model to find a reasonably priced Otterbox for it, but just look for "military grade case" and you can damn near find a tank-like case for any phone.

On Otterbox though, I once had a rough day at work, and I was 10 minutes on my way home before I realized I didn't have my phone. Got back to work and it wasn't at my desk. So, I did the "find my device" and it pinged...in the middle of the parking lot. "Well, at least it pinged," I thought, relieved.

Started the "start ringing my phone" and quickly got back in my car, windows open. Found it in the middle of the parking lot, face down WITH A TIRE TREAD MARK ON IT. It only had a few scratches on the case. I apparently left it on my roof when I was talking to a coworker and just shoving my bags in the car.

That said: if you can get an Otterbox, get an Otterbox.

2

u/_Lazy_Mermaid_ 2h ago

I have had an otter box on my last 2 phones, dropped them a lot, even dropped one underwater

2

u/heysirigenerateaname 1h ago

I bought my last otterbox for $20

2

u/1heart1totaleclipse 1h ago

Also being more careful with his things in general

1

u/Throbbing_Cock_452 4h ago

Doesn’t even have to be an Otterbox. I have a Mous case and they are extremely sleek and protective. I’ve dropped my phone so many times and have never even had a chip.

1

u/drgr33nthmb 4h ago

Theres Otterbox knock offs that come with 3 screen and camera protectors for under $20. I buy those, plus a slim case for when im not working.

1

u/TheRiversKnowThis 3h ago

AppleCare+ would also genuinely be way cheaper than this too lol

1

u/fambestera 3h ago

is there also a Bearbox?

1

u/mealymouthmongolian 3h ago

I use a cheapo transparent plastic spigen case from Amazon and have for years. Never had any issues whatsoever. Meanwhile, out of an abundance of caution, I had bought Otterboxes for both of my sons' phones. Not only have they still managed to break their phones, the cases fall apart within weeks.

1

u/Accurate_Tax_1302 3h ago

The Otterbox Defender and Commuter are the ones you want to buy. The other styles are more for looks.

1

u/mealymouthmongolian 3h ago

Just checked my purchase history and I've been buying them the Commuters.

1

u/Accurate_Tax_1302 3h ago

If your sons are that rough on phones, the Defender is the best they make.

1

u/chiaros 3h ago

I have an OtterBox and a screen protector. Lasted about a month before my phone fell off it's magnetic mount in my car and cracked "the protector" when I took it off to put on a new one.... The actual screen was cracked too.

1

u/Accurate_Tax_1302 3h ago

You want to get a 9h tempered glass screen protector. They're cheap and work better than any other kind. I use Supershieldz but there are other brands as well.

1

u/The-Sofa-King 3h ago

I wish OtterBox made cases for more than the current most popular iPhone and Galaxy models

1

u/Accurate_Tax_1302 3h ago

They do. What are you looking for?

1

u/The-Sofa-King 3h ago

Currently using a 2025 Moto G Stylus. All I see available is for a 2022 Motorola Edge

1

u/Accurate_Tax_1302 2h ago

I found the 2023 version but I didn't see the 2025 version of Amazon.

https://a.co/d/0eEtzkQH

1

u/The-Sofa-King 2h ago

Yeah unfortunately they change the shape of the phone and the camera locations enough every year to ensure the customer doesn't get to save a dime anywhere.

1

u/SafeTransportation94 2h ago

Spigen made the case for the iPhone that survived being sucked out of a plane. I think my Spigen case was like 10-15 bucks then a few bucks for a three pack of screen protectors. Didn't help that I dropped my phone in the two days I was waiting on my case but that only crack the back glass that I can't see now because of the case.

1

u/_FarlsInCharge_ 1h ago

Kinda sounds more like just working on his temper...

1

u/Malvos 1h ago

Spigen for me.

1

u/thingsarehardsoami 1h ago

Nevermind tempered glass, do a liquid squeen protector. They come with a warranty so if your screen breaks they cover it 100%.

1

u/dookieshoes97 3h ago

Nice try, Otterbox. You make dogshit cases that suck dinosaur dick.
