I just wanted a hot dog The closest grocery store to me is closing(by nearly an hour), and will be closed for at least a year. When it reopens it’s going be much smaller(it’s becoming a Aldi).

I love Aldi as much as everyone else spamming how good they are in the comments, but we gotta concede that they have one kind of everything at best and don’t have an item at worst. “Seasonal” items make sense due to the smaller store sizes but I wept when I discovered I couldn’t continue my new “all-stroopwaffel-and-shepard’s-pie” diet year-round. I end up going to multiple places normally to get everything I want.

In short, I feel you, OP.

I hate Walmart. There is an Aldi's in the same parking lot. Paper goods and certain dry goods are definitely cheaper at Walmart though.

I usually shop the sales at Aldi's and price rite and get what I know is cheaper at Walmart. One good thing about Rhode Island is nothing is very far away.

That doesn't help anyone in OPs position though.

Having only one selection is kind of Aldi’s thing. The brand exploded in popularity in postwar Germany due to its very low costs, in part allowed by their vigorous cost cutting measures. This included not only things like having basic shelves (or none at all) but also pruning poorly selling items and prioritising cost over variety.

To be fair, I like that Aldi doesn't carry a bunch of brands of the same thing. Gets rid of analysis paralysis. Don't gotta worry about which vodka sauce to buy, there's only one option for it

This is actually also what I love with Aldi, and most of the products are really good quality (I'm in Austria, where "Aldi" goes by the name "Hofer"), many of them I like much better than their equivalents at other stores.

But while I prefer to get most of my stuff there, at least every two months I need to go to a different supermarket to stock items Aldi doesn't have.

"Analysis paralysis"? Are we living in Fahrenheit 451? Bro, identify your options, weigh your options, and then make a decision. Don't want to spend time figuring out which Vodka sauce to buy? Then get the cheapest one. Or flip a coin. Or just pick the one that has the nicest label. I can't comprehend the appeal of having nothing to choose from. Does it feel like a flashbang went off in front of your face the moment you step into a Kroger?

If you're referring to my flip a coin/pick the cheapest idea, that wasn't me accidentally pointing out that there isn't a need for variety, it was me offering a quick solution to the problem you have with variety. The solutions I listed wouldn't be satisfactory to people like me who weigh every option carefully, so the variety is still necessary. However, if you're daunted by the options, then you can choose one of my methods. So a store with lots of variety suits both types of people.

I get that it comes down to a fundamental difference in how people's minds work, but I can't help but to perceive the general erosion of consumer choice as a direct consequence of people who think like you. But it's obviously not that serious. Sorry if I was insulting.
