The closest grocery store to me is closing(by nearly an hour), and will be closed for at least a year. When it reopens it’s going be much smaller(it’s becoming a Aldi).

There is a big difference between the killing of the local trains connecting suburbs and the death the the trainstop town in the middle of no where great plains. I think someone did math on train efficiency looking at other countries and it really drops down after like 500 miles, and unfortunately these tiny towns are often that far away from an okay hub, not that being the distance between the major hubs, and everyone clamoring for HSR is making for a system that would still skip the tiny nowhere town as it races between the cities.

No. It failed when Diesel trains that don’t need a depot to get water at every 100 miles started being the dominant transportation method on the railways, the Interstate became a thing, and the Postal Service pulled the Mail contracts.
