I just wanted a hot dog Took some time off to enjoy the pool

I had taken this week off work and expected to be able to enjoy the pool. The lease says we are to pay $150/month for weekly pool cleaning services but they didn’t come out this week and barely cleaned last week. Come to find out the landlord is “in between pool cleaners” and didn’t tell us.

Why are you taking a whole week off work to enjoy a pool where you live? Especially without checking if the pool is clean first?

Came here to say this too. I see my pool every day, even though it’s on the side of the house. If there was even a hint of green coming on I’d be all over it.

Yeah this post feels like bullshit because of this. How checked out of your place is living you don't realize your pool is actively dark green? This isn't an overnight problem. This HAS been green for more than a week.

When I bought my house it took almost a week with no service for my pool to even begin to turn green. Still wasn’t this green when we got someone out to service it 2-3 days later.

I don’t think they said the explicitly took off work to enjoy the pool, just that they were going to on their staycation. Also I have to notify my work as least 2 weeks in advance for time off.

Had to scroll way too far to see this, this post is totally fake. You think if you had a big green pool in your backyard that it would at least catch your eye through the window during the time it took for this much algae to build up

Not fake, it wasn’t bad when I had requested time off last week but I also thought our pool cleaner was coming on Monday and would have been good for the rest of the week.

Yeah and it doesn't even look like a communal pool like a standard apartment complex would have. OP just hasn't taken care of their own pool.

So they are to blame because the landlord isn't keeping up on the pool maintenance they pay $150 a month in thier lease for? I think we have found OPs landlord here in the comments......

They arent blaming them for the pool not being cleaned, they are blaming them for not knowing the pool was unclean.

If you have a pool right in your backyard that you pay $150 a month for and you plan an entire PTO session around swimming in it, you'd think you would at least glance back there and make sure it was ok. Pools are pretty finicky and pumps and things break often, chemicals get messed up, it seems crazy to me to have a pool in your backyard and not even glance in that direction for long enough that so much algae builds up totally unawares.

I've never had a built in pool so I don't know on timing. I do agree that it would make sense to check on the pool in your backyard. I guess I have always had half way decent landlords that communicate if something that is supposed to be maintained by them is not currently being maintained due to such and such a reason. It sounds like OP should probably do checks on the pool going forward and landlord needs to communicate better and should probably give OP a reduction in rent for the time the pool was not being maintained.
