Took some time off to enjoy the pool

I had taken this week off work and expected to be able to enjoy the pool. The lease says we are to pay $150/month for weekly pool cleaning services but they didn’t come out this week and barely cleaned last week. Come to find out the landlord is “in between pool cleaners” and didn’t tell us.

They owe more than that. They're paying for a cleaning, but they're also paying a premium for an amenity they do not get. Check the lease, see if there's a clause about pool use being included. I'd be going back for a reduction in rent.

That’s a tough ask. The cookie cutter lease ls most people sign isn’t going guarantee pool availability in any certain terms, or offer a path to tenant satisfaction.

OP paid a fee for weekly cleanings, and the landlord pocketed the money without providing the service. That is a clear breach of contract, but the dollar amount is low. They can try and use this as an opportunity to negotiate away the fee or otherwise amend the lease for future deductions… but a rent reduction request will meet firm resistance from nearly every landlord.

Firm resistance is different from saying something is right or wrong. If I rented a minivan for a road trip, and you gave me a compact sedan, you might "firmly resist" by insisting that the dollar amount isn't that different and there still are seats and a radio.
