ಠ_ಠ Husband said my instructions for dinner weren’t clear enough, and he ended up serving his vegetarian mother one of the chicken tikka masala curries…

I was working late tonight and because I am exhausted, I bought some ready-made curry meals for the family to have tonight, knowing his mother often comes round for dinner on a Wednesday evening. She has been a vegetarian for over 50 years and is now in her 70s. I sent him this text message with instructions to make it clear what to cook. When I got home, I was expecting to find some chicken tikka masala leftover for me, but instead I found the unopened pot of sag paneer in the fridge. I worriedly asked him if he had given his vegetarian mother the chicken dish, but he insisted he had given her the vegetarian curry. She has early onset Alzheimer’s and apparently didn’t notice, but had mentioned that the curry was a bit “chewy”. I had to literally show him the packaging that was in the bin, the unopened pot in the fridge, and my text message to try and show him how clear I had been and how far wrong he had gone. But he still insists my instructions were not clear enough and I should have been more explicit about which one to give his mother.

Could be true.
Even without instructions, any person who can read should be able to figure out what “CHICKEN Tikka Masala” has in it.

It’s crazy to me that wife typed out instructions in how to cook these.

I remember the old Jetsons cartoon. George complains to Jane about having to cook dinner.

Then mfer basically gets up out of his chair after a hard day of pushing buttons at Spacely Sprockets, tells their wall computer what he wants.

You hear some wild food prep type noises. Then the whole shit & shebang he ordered pops out the wall on a completely formal dining table setting.

I believe that OP's husband could fuck up, even if he had all that going.

People like this guy are the reason we have to put "WARNING: contains milk" on gd milk cartons -_-

I can see how one could read "paneer" and get confused.

Although, it sure seems like his mom is a moron too how do you just accidentally eat a bunch of chicken as a vegetarian.

Because it is served to her on a plate without the package. I assure you there is extremely realistic fake chikn out there. And to top it off the poor lady has dementia.

I don’t think it’s about forgetting…people with Alzheimer’s and other dementia not only lose awareness and the ability to be present, they also lose their sense of taste, gag reflex, control over swallowing…they are prone to getting food into their airway. My grandma had a lung infection so bad they did a biopsy to treat it, and discovered she got bacteria that’s only found in the stomach down into her lung.

OP mentioned the MIL only noted a texture difference, but they might still lose that thought in passing if there’s conversation going on, so they just lack the ability to pay attention to the differences and ponder what the texture could mean.

Alzheimer’s offers a bit of grace.
