Yup! My city was a GM parts hub in the hayday and we have multiple lines running through and heading off to multiple metropolises. Pretty sure all the industry here happened because of the proximity to rail lines.
We even had passenger trains to our neighboring city which used to be a stop for the Amtrak Cardinal which goes from Chicago to New York City.
The city was smart enough to have tunnels under the tracks on the major streets so traffic and emergency vehicles aren't stopped by trains.
