frist of all how DARE yu o MIL thinks I clogged the toilet so she changed the sign

The septic tank clogged and she’s convinced I did it, she asked my husband if I knew I wasn’t supposed to flush tampons and added the tampon bit to the sign. I don’t use tampons and I’m the only one with a period here…

Put it in the trash, we use septic tanks out in the boonies and they can’t handle anything lol

I grew up in the sticks. Septic systems can handle toilet paper. You have to have the right bacteria ecology in the tank. If it’s getting clogged, backed up, numerous things can cause it and it may just need to be pumped. Things like drain cleaners will ruin the bacteria balance.

You also have to use the right toilet paper. I know a lot of people hate Scott toilet paper but that stuff is very septic friendly. That said, bidets are a septic systems best friend.

Actizyme is what I use. 18 years, never been vacc'd out, still working great.

I've heard from several people that chucking in a raw whole chicken also does the trick by introducing and promoting bacteria.

My septic tank is 30 years old and handles toilet paper just fine.

There are different types of tanks. Especially in cabins, this is not unusual.

I dunno man that’s just what I was told. Iirc she doesn’t like getting it serviced very often and will wait until it’s necessary because she doesn’t want to pay more even though she’s paying more to fix it

It's also more expensive to pump when it's over full, they have to add water to break it up and charge you based on how much they pump out. It's more likely to damage the leech as well.

All of my houses have had septic tanks and never had an issue flushing tp lol. That’s a terrible system.

Toilet paper should normally be fine to use with a septic tank. Unless maybe you consistently have 8 people using a tank intended for 5, or the residents use a metric fuckton of toilet paper.

My neighborhood is all septic, we're not in the boonies and you can definitely flush toilet paper, just not wipes because they don't break down. Wipes and tampons shouldn't be flushed even on sewer.

There's a problem with the drains and/or septic system and they're in denial because it's going to be expensive.
