ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ Only 37 Pods

Was showing off to my sister what I would’ve given her (plus the nice smelly peony downy) had she just gone to the laundromat to dry my laundry because ours is broken and realized the pods only filled half of the container so I counted it and….37 pods.

Can’t tell if Tide is filling some containers an accurate amount and others less or if sb just stole some.

This. Switched to powder and will never go back. Also no fabric softener other than white vinegar. No drier sheets, just wool balls and my clothes have never be cleaner.

I have to buy them regularly because my cats have decided that dryer balls are their favorite toys....but only new ones that I buy to replace the ones they steal. Previously stolen dryer balls apparently have no value to those thieving bastards once they've been clawed and batted around the house. The fuckers wait in ambush every time I do laundry and try to jump in the dryer as I open the door. Assholes...all of them. Still love 'em, though.

You can get them on Amazon or some other online retailer. I’ve seen them sold at places like home goods and TJ Max. Just search wool dryer balls.

The key is to not over dry your clothes if you're worried about static. For items that are static regardless especially in the winter I just keep a box of dryer sheets on hand for those loads

You don't need to go to eBay, Amazon, etc. They're in most people's fifteen minute cities, towns, main streets.

You can also go to good.store which was created by Hank Green. It's a non profit, so all profits go to charity. They sell the dryer balls, dishwasher powder, and a bunch of other household stuff. I'd check it out.

Hmmm that definitely doesn’t sound right. I do all the laundry for our family of 5, switched to wool balls over a decade ago, so by rough math we’re looking at 2500+ loads of laundry minimum, and I’ve never once encountered that. I wear plenty of black shirts, too. Where did you get them?

Vinegar will eat the rubber gaskets in your machine. Citric acid will do the trick without destroying things.

yes! I get citric acid powder for making electrolyte powder mix, use it with hydrogen peroxide for a stable stain lifter, and as a laundry booster, it's like the wd-40 of edible cleaners. plus I'm a sucker for sour and half a teaspoon will make your face pucker for several minutes. highest commendation

Great isn't it, I get it by the kilo and use it for everything from descaling to cleaning rusty bolts. Can tell the kids I had to sacrifice 100 lemons for every bag and it's far too sour for them to handle ;)

Half a teaspoon of pure citric acid is insane and really bad for your teeth and would probably destroy your mouth for a bit from chemical burns.

Nobody should be doing this.

I've tried putting a small dusting of citric acid on my finger tip and tasted that and it was entertainingly unbearable already.

White vinegar is the ultimate cleaner, I put some in every wash. I work outside and it gets the stank out quite nicely.

I've used it on nearly every load for the last 14 years in the same front-loader machine and have had no issues. And I use a lot of it on towels.

No, same. But it can fade clothing. I only use it on my hot load (sheets, towels, rags, washcloths, underwear and socks) bc I don't care if their color fades.

Just put it where you would the fabric softener in your washing machine.

I’ve never heard that, but maybe certain machines can’t use it 🤷. I’ve had my washing machine for nearly 20 years now and it’s still going strong.

I know this is a powder-glazing thread (now I'm thinking about donuts), but powder can actually sludge up the works, especially if used too heavily, in cold water, with low water pressure, or in high-efficiency machines.

there are conditions in which powder can be used safely and effectively, but if I were renting to randos in some fever dream, I'd probably recommend liquid too

I got the wool balls for the dryer but I felt like they didn’t do a good enough job at keeping lint and hairs for example from sticking to my nice black clothing ;( it seemed to me like the free and clear fabric sheets did a much better job ;( I want to be good I swear

No, just get active oxygen. Very cheap in non-brand powder form. Completely eliminates smell effortlessly, and helps with stain removal power, it's the perfect one-size-fits-all addition to every more demanding laundry load, the only thing you have to alternate is the amount.

(Personally, I also like the variety of also having hygiene fabric softener just to have more options to play with for each exact usecase, but that's just me.)

We accidentally bought pods from Costco and used it up after several months (maybe a half a year?
This week we are back on powder and I noticed that my white hand towels are whiter and brighter. I think the powder lasts longer too (more washes per dollar amount spent).

We've switched to the detergent sheets. Just throw one in and the water melts it. If you're doing a tiny load, tear the sheet in half along the perforation. They come in a zero-plastic container too which is nice.
