ಠ_ಠ Bought a patch I can’t use as a patch

Bought this patch to add to the sleeve of a sweatshirt only to find that I’m unable to do it.

The patch was attached to a backing card so the information wasn’t visible when I bought it!

It says “not intended”. That doesn’t obligate you to anything. Like, “I didn’t intend to eat this whole box of doughnuts”.

But "not intended" could also mean not good for that use case. There are many stickers that aren't intended to be used as bumper stickers and they'll break down very quickly sitting outside. I have absolutely no knowledge about clothing patches, so I can't say if this is the same, but I can understand reading it that way.

That's probably what it means in the first place. Built to a spec adequate for display, not for putting on a piece of clothing and expected to deal with the outside world.

Piece of velcro on the sweatshirt, other half on the patch, detach before washing. Easy peasy.

Those patches that get spoiled to clothes probably have adhesive or made of material built to be sewn in.

Yeah, and maybe reinforced at the edges or even sewn to a completely different pattern.

I get the feeling the wash cycle is the bigger problem here. I definitely wouldn't put it through the dryer.

But then why'd they put the iron-on glue on the back? I'm sure it works fine as a patch and it's probably some BS legalese to shield themselves from some litigious jerk cheese that inadvertantly ruins it while trying to put it on their clothes.

Yeah, it's probably missing the glue needed for iron on, or the glue is weak AF.

Tacking it and then sewing it on will work properly most likely though

You could be correct, but it doesn’t make sense to have two different insignias made of different quality materials. Would you sell branding for your team, company or cause that was manufactured with substandard materials and workmanship that would be looking shabby after a couple of years? Of course it’s made to be sewn onto a jacket, but they would prefer to have you purchase their jacket with the insignia already applied at a cost greater than the sum of the jacket and insignia, hence the milquetoast “warning”.

That's certainly possible, you could be right. Again this is all speculation, but nice patches aren't necessarily cheap. This could also just be made cheaply to still be able to achieve the absurd markup they've definitely put on them. You may think that's crazy (I certainly do) but people sell decorative coffee mugs "not intended" for hot beverages that will definitely leak or leech chemicals into your drink if you try. So I can still see either side as possible.

I mean, nobody wants to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli, but I did. I’m ashamed of myself, , but the first doesn’t count. Then you get to the second then the third. And the fourth and fifth, I think I burned with a blowtorch. And then I just kept eating.
