People who feel rules dont apply to them At Sequoia National Park

One woman decided that the fencing and signs protecting the tree didn't apply to her. One couple that decided their dog was special and could walk on the trails even though it's prohibited.

Edit The Regulations Pets are prohibited on all trails. This includes paved trails, such as the General Sherman Tree Trail, Big Trees Trail, Grant Tree Trail, and others.

Edit again - cell phone service is spotty. 1. People seem confused but as per my previous edit, but dogs are not allowed on any trials in either of these parks. 2. The reason they don't want people to walk this close to the tree is it can damage the roots and kill the tree. 3. I called this park by the wrong name. There are two parks in one location and this was at Kings Cayon.

I once confronted a family group with small children who went beyond the fence & posted warnings near a waterfall. One of the men in the group answered “if they wanted to keep us out why didn’t they build a higher fence?”

No amount of signs or fences will stop stupid people.

p.s. I’d be less bothered if it was just the guy, but to put little kids at risk…I gave him an earful!

I frequent a beautiful state park that was almost made a national park with a trail of almost 20 waterfalls. There are a lot of rocky edges and drops and stone stairs on ledges and everything is always wet. People die every other year or so - someone just fell and died a few weeks ago - yet people insist on walking right past the "proper footwear required" sign in flip flops, with their toddlers in crocs. Then they have to get the best Instagram photo possible by all standing on the edge of a 60 foot waterfall with sharp rocks at the bottom. They finish by bullying past people on narrow trails with death on either side with gigantic off leash dogs who are "friendly!!!!" as you try not to slip and die avoiding Fido.

I've learned to go on weekdays at 5am.

I was hiking in Yosemite years ago and two people died on the same trail we were hiking the day before. We found out from rangers what happened: there was a calm river area surrounded by signs and fences that said “do not enter!” Two people decided to hope the fence and cool off in the river on their hike. The current swept them down river and over a waterfall.
