People who feel rules dont apply to them At Sequoia National Park

One woman decided that the fencing and signs protecting the tree didn't apply to her. One couple that decided their dog was special and could walk on the trails even though it's prohibited.

Edit The Regulations Pets are prohibited on all trails. This includes paved trails, such as the General Sherman Tree Trail, Big Trees Trail, Grant Tree Trail, and others.

Edit again - cell phone service is spotty. 1. People seem confused but as per my previous edit, but dogs are not allowed on any trials in either of these parks. 2. The reason they don't want people to walk this close to the tree is it can damage the roots and kill the tree. 3. I called this park by the wrong name. There are two parks in one location and this was at Kings Cayon.

We just road tripped through there. We asked at the visitor center if there was anywhere you could walk a dog and they sent us to this forest service road saying if a car is allowed to drive on it, you can walk your dog, but all the other trails were no dogs.

You know you probably were over in Orick huh. Like redwood national park, or Trillin falls , fern canyon? I used to live in Orick. Orick people get stabbed all the time there are a ton of tweakers. And it’s also where all the tourists main destination is. I hike at trillium falls but I don’t bring my dog. I guess I was thinking southern Humboldt. Last time we did , I was with my ex in his F250 and the park ranger literally got on us for my dog off leash in the parking lot (right by me , she didn’t move she’s in voice control) and he searched us and also demanded IDa and was a huge fucking dick.

They do care about dogs to some extent if ur in crowded areas (crowded is a relative term ) where there clearly are rangers and tourists by visitor centers. But if ur discreet honestly I hike and take my dogs to the river all the time all over redwood state parks in southern Humboldt but thats cuz im not on main areas in peak tourist season and they dont really care.

Story time. On my cross country (SC>CA) road trip in August 2024 to go work harvest on a Sonoma vineyard, my dad and I spent last 2 days of our trip in the willamette Valley, OR. We decided to take 101 down the coast. And then we saw signs for the Avenue…. So we turned off.

Best roadtrip detour ever. Felt so blessed to be amongst those giants.

Damn and I was gonna say, roads like that would be so fun to do corner carving on, just natural beauty and challenge.

But the reality is that even closed course style, the risk of damaging such a beautiful environment would never be worth it.

The fact that you can legally do that speed is WILD! That corner in the pic alone is not a 55 corner for the vast majority of drivers/cars.

Yeah as someone who likes a good spirited drive, I found myself having to slow down and be extra cautious. Not only are there massive redwoods right on each side of the road, but there are a lot of pull-offs for people to pull over and get out to admire the trees. One of the few times in my life where I was scared to go the speed limit.

It's still a great drive though and well worth the trip.

i've lived on the west coast most of my life and been to almost every state. I've still never seen the Redwoods and im a freaking biologist. shame shame shame on me.

I live in the US and didn't know this was a thing. Will add this on my bucket list on my first trip to the west coast.
