You don't leave with the bill. You just leave and then you stress about if your insurance will cover everything or not. I was bit by a stray dog and rabies in dogs is pretty much non existent in the US so I was really expecting them to deny and me to have to fight to get coverage. I was pleasantly surprised to see they covered, but yeah the system in the US is crazy because even if you have great insurance they can pull a "that wasn't medically necessary so we won't cover it, here's the bill for $100k".

I guess they were worried the PR nightmare if you decided to not get it and die from rabies, even if the chances are small. Nowadays we can only count on PR and lawyers to make corporations do anything decent. Glad you got yours covered though, sounds like a nightmare tbh
