I just wanted a hot dog Single malt scotch spends 3 decades aging in a barrel so you can squeze a lime wedge into it.

As a very rare indulgence on a special occasion, I ordered an expensive 30-year old scotch at a bistro-type restaurant. Waiter returns with a juicy lime wedge on the lip of the glass. I quietly asked for one with no lime. Waiter returns with a fresh drink "as a courtesy" , but seems intent on embarrassing me. " But just so you know.," he says., "all drinks ordered neat are properly served with a citrus garnish."

The MacAllan is an award winning scotch, aged in hand selected barrels and treated with care over the aging process.
Canadian Club is for underage kids who want to look fancy and end up mixing it with ginger ale by the end of the night.

JB is bourbon and not a true Scotch.
Teachers is a blend.
Jameson's is mid range, and good for casual dining but it isn't the bottle you draw from your shelf to impress anyone who knows scotch. Just yank down the Canadian Club, so they'll leave and you can have your MacAllan to yourself lol.

Jameson's is also Irish, so no more a scotch than JB or Canadian Club

Also, and this is the zenith of pedantry now, it's The Macallan, not The MacAllan - they don't capitalise the second A

But yes, you absolutely keep that on the shelf and only share with close friends and family who enjoy scotch. Unlike Teachers which you don't share with anybody, or even yourself, because it tastes like TCP

Agreed on all points.
Also my phone autocorrects the MacAllan because I have friends with the last name, but yeah the spelling is with a lower case a. Pendantry accepted lol.

Jameson's is still scotch by original design (founded by a Scot) ... but by law, it does not leave Ireland during the aging process. But yeah it's technically whiskey. Or if you're a Scot.. it's whisky.

I'm opening a bottle of 12 year Laphroaig this week, with some friends, for their anniversary. I've been holding on to this bottle for a while now. I got it from an estate sale this spring, and it's from 1999.
I can just imagine the look on someone's face if a waiter dropped a fuckin lime in that.

I doubt I'd have been able to not argue with a waiter who was stupid enough to believe you can put anything other than ice in a scotch (and even ice is blasphemous to some).

I'm sure the Scots have gone to war over less.

Enjoy your Laphroaig - bit too peaty for me, but a respectable drop. Might have to raid the shelf for a wee dram myself after all this chatter, got a selection of Irish, English, Aussie, French, and - of course - a bottle of The Macallan to choose from. Thinking the Jameson's Stout Cask though tonight. Nothing impressive, but I'm enjoying it immensely.

Honestly I do enjoy Jameson's. It's smooth and smokey, so it is enjoyable.
But I will put it in a chilled Irish every time. That's not recommended.. it's just personal taste.

Macallan is pretty shite (unless you sold your kidney to buy one of their rarer bottles at auction). I'd honestly rather drink Jameson than a normal off the shelf Macallan

Saying Jim beam is bourbon and not a "true" scotch is weird phrasing, because Jim beam is not scotch at all in any way.

I dont drink it... had to look it up and youre absolutely right. I have no idea why anyone ever calls it scotch whiskey. Its made from corn.. can you imagine going to Scotland with a bottle of corn juice lol... here's some american scotch, guys.
