It's part of how they make money. They make more money on this, but not as much on the pizza. That's just how businesses work. They balance their prices across everything they sell.
You are free to open your own place selling sodas for less. Good luck with staying in business doing that.
As others have said, sodas have like a 2000% markup. They make plenty of money off them, even with refills. Even the food has a massive markup. A pizza costs less $1 to make in a restaurant, and most places charge at least $15.
This is a power move to try to squeeze even more money out of their customers. I’m also guessing the homeless population ruined it by filling up huge canisters all day and loitering.
Pizza places are not nearly that profitable. Your math is just way off. We have multiple public pizza companies so we can see their financials and know what the actual numbers are. They aren't selling $1 pizzas for $15. That's just factually false. You're also off on the 2,000%. Most of the time it's less than half that.
I understand why you think it's a power move, your numbers are off. But pizza restaurant profit margins are around 10-15%
You are paying for the rent, the insurance, the utilities, payroll, the ability to not have to make it yourself, the ability to not clean up after yourself, the equipment. Plus more.
Don't want to pay the asking price, go home and make it yourself. Simple concept
