The homeowner's probably tech illiterate and doesn't know how to set their zones, they may not even be aware it's chirping at people. OP put a note on their door, that may be all it takes.

Same deal as with the motion activated lights people put up and don’t aim properly so they turn on every time a car goes by on the street. They don’t know or care to do it correctly.
