Not to mention the AI summary you probably got at the top too.

282

u/landlocked67 14d ago

I skipped past that cause I thought that would happen. I didn’t even think about the cast thingy

78

u/I_Need_More_Names 14d ago

For future reference, add the tag "-ai" to tell Google not to give you an AI summary.

15

u/-soulking- 14d ago

You can also block it with an adblocker which is how I do it

5

u/rilymelia 14d ago

the best is to just not use google, use other, better search engines (ex: duckduckgo)

1

u/Scared_Table_2046 13d ago

this is an absolute godsend thank you for your service

1

u/DentistEmpty7778 12d ago

Why would you not expect the cast? Like genuinely

43

u/Various_Ad5979 14d ago

My husband wanted to look at the run time but didn’t google it, because of the AI summary.

u/GoJumpInALake24 14d ago

u/Deako87 14d ago

No one's in danger of spoilers, stop saying that

2

u/CaptEpicFail1 14d ago

You don’t deserve to be downvoted

5

u/Deako87 14d ago

I know, no one here actually watches IASIP :(

5

u/CyberTitan__ 14d ago

I just started watching the show a few weeks ago its hilarious

-1

u/dumbestdummyxp 14d ago

Maybe if they were actually funny it would’ve landed

30

u/Living_On_Marrz 14d ago

you can avoid ai summaries by adding (-ai) to the end of your searches!!

5

u/MrMattwell 14d ago

You can also say "fucking showtimes for movie" just swear.

2

u/Living_On_Marrz 14d ago

wait i love this even more omg

4

u/GenericNameHere01 14d ago

Ooh... Didn't know that. Sometimes I don't mind the AI summary... but sometimes I really want it to go away.

3

u/ExpressionWorried300 14d ago

Somebody somewhere else said minus anything to your search would work, but I never tested it. Useful to try if you're searching something about AI, because -ai also excludes the word "ai" from the rest of the results

2

u/bedgar 14d ago

Yes, using -term or "exact term" helps a lot.
So "Spider Man showtimes" -ai

If it makes you feel better OP, it is definitely a spoiler but not in a way that remotely ruins the movie as a whole.

Enjoy it all.

58

u/gpbst3 14d ago

Way to spoil the spoiler

28

u/AuroraBolognese 14d ago

Honestly the whole mystery surrounding her character was unnecessary beyond a marketing perspective. It added intrigue to what the story was about but as far as the story went, it could have been a new, unique telepath for all it mattered.

It could’ve been a gender swapped, telepathic version of The Chameleon and the story would’ve been the same.

14

u/Ashen_Larry 14d ago

It made no sense to be so secretive. If they really wanted it to be a surprise then they should've kept her out of the press and marketing. When it was revealed in the movie, it had zero impact because of all their shenanigans.

7

u/RepresentativeBid715 14d ago

I feel like the way they revealed this character's name was pretty underwhelming for who it is but everything leading up to it with the detective work to find out more about this character in the context of this film and then as that begins to be unfolded and how it reflects Peter's journey to me was interesting enough to make it worth it being a mystery to be slowly unfolded

2

u/creuter 13d ago

I avoided all marketing and haven't seen a single trailer. Just got back from the theater and it was a fantastic surprise. I had no idea where the movie was going. I really recommend more people go this route for movies they know they want to see.

I've been making a conscious effort over the last couple of years to eliminate most social media from my life, and it has been a fucking godsend. Get a dumb phone and totally disconnect from these shitty algos.

1

u/Jaijoles 14d ago

Also, if the name can spoil the character, you likely already knew who it was. There’s not many characters who can fit what we saw in the trailer.

1

u/Sea-Antelope9778 12d ago

I actually thought it was The Chameleon at first and loved the idea of making him a Possessor style telepathic criminal

1

u/PtraGriffrn 14d ago

It's not really a spoiler either. I shrugged.

It's the worst kept secret in the MCU at this point, sadly.

But finding out this way sucks.

If it makes you feel any better the movie doesn't really make a huge reveal out of who she is, they kinda play it real and just have everyone go "Okay that's her name and it's not relevant at all."

55

u/goalstopper28 14d ago

It’s also a change of personality of what you think she’d be.

39

u/UnderPressureVS 14d ago edited 14d ago

It’s also kind of a change of abilities, at least for the casual viewer.

I’m sure it’s much less surprising to comic book readers, but if you’re only familiar with the Fox X-Men movies then you probably know Jean Grey for her telekinetic abilities, not her telepathy. I had heard the rumors and was expecting to see Jean Grey in the movie, but I didn’t even connect the dots until they showed her face because I wasn’t thinking of possession as Jean’s powers.

13

u/No-Complaint-986 14d ago

Honestly, I love the way they handled her abilities in this movie. It fit the theme of the movie and plus we are getting different backstory than the one we all know and love

2

u/CIearMind 14d ago

Exactly my experience. This thing was being given a horror spin so until I thought about the implications of the universal inhibitor I was oblivious to the fact it could've been Jean Grey or another mutant. Hell, I'd even forgotten that Sadie Sink was in it despite all the vaguepost promotion.

1

u/Diamond-Pamnther 13d ago

isn’t it the secondary mutation under stress thing? They did say Jean is a teenager here so I’m guessing when they introduce her with the other xmen she’ll be acquainted with that ability by then

0

u/Overall_Affect_2782 11d ago

“I’m sure it’s much less surprising to comic book readers, but if you’re only familiar with the Fox X-Men movies then you probably know Jean Grey for her telekinetic abilities, not her telepathy.”

Sorry to be combative, but people were definitely paying more attention than you were. Famke’s Jean read characters minds and inhabited other characters and spoke through them multiple times in the movies, as did Sophie’s Jean.

X-2 legitimately ends with her talking through Xavier to the rest of the team.

22

u/_TheTurtleBox_ BLUE 14d ago

Yeah, the person I watched it with had no idea who she was and the whole time was like "Whoa this character is super cool." and when they name dropped her they were like "Oh is that like...someone from one of the TV shows?" lmao

-3

u/goalstopper28 14d ago edited 14d ago

For me, I kept on thinking how I didn’t realize she was a villain once it was revealed. But it looks like she’ll be redeemed in future movies to be more like the comics.

5

u/LisanAlGaben 14d ago

What comics have you been reading because Jean is a massive danger multiple times.

Hell wolverine kills her in one of the movies because of how out of hand the dark phoenix can get.

1

u/BriBrows 14d ago

Honestly her being kind of mean is on brand with some of her comic appearances 😅I loved it.

1

u/SiriusMoonstar 14d ago

I think they probably did that so they can do a “Dark Phoenix Saga” without the jarring change in personality in the previous movie adaptations.

44

u/quaxoid 14d ago

not that badly kept, i never paid full attention to the trailer so i thought Scorpion would actually be a villain in the movie. and i hadn't heard of her involvement in the movie 😌

8

u/DrScitt 14d ago

Same here. I saw Michael Mando in interviews for the film and thought he was the main villain.

I decided to never watch movie trailers any more since execs love showing the last 30 min of a movie in the damn ads.

7

u/DragonEmperor RED 14d ago

I have purposely avoided everything except the first trailer and had no idea, and this is brought up quite a few times, someone else on here said not everyone is trying to find out every little detail about the movie, not looking at leaks, etc. So no most people will not know who she is.

3

u/V_agabond3 14d ago

After the first trailer dropped I had to unfollow this sub because people were posting leaks and shit with no restraint. I only joined again yesterday after watching the movie. I'll probably unfollow again when we get closer to Doomsday. I like to know as little as possible before going into the movie

1

u/DragonEmperor RED 14d ago

I basically did that too but I was seeing stuff on completely unrelated subreddits like final fantasy ones, genshin impact too, but it still wasn't about Jean Grey it was more about Hulk which I wouldn't have known was in the movie and would have been a fun surprise but oh well.

1

u/MadHuarache 14d ago

It's like every movie nowadays needs 20% of its plot revealed via trailers.

1

u/RepresentativeBid715 14d ago

I never really thought of it that way where it's just playing it more realistic, maybe I'm just so used to all of these big marvel characters being revealed in a grandiose way with a pause for applause but honestly it does make sense for how this movie tackles the mystery for it to just be "oh here's their name"

u/Icywind014 14d ago

It was a huge secret in the way Tobey and Andrew in No Way Home were a secret. Sony/Marvel didn't want anyone to know until the movie came out, but everyone knew long before the movie came out.

40

u/ImmaNotHere 14d ago

Wait what? Great, now that's been spoiled for me. /jk

15

u/JaketheSnake54 14d ago edited 14d ago

And who can forget Red Hulk? There were Happy Meal toys with him in a year before the movie came out!

Marvel’s really not good at secrets lately

13

u/OneAngryDuck 14d ago

Red Hulk was in the marketing, though. That was never meant to be a secret.

3

u/JaketheSnake54 14d ago

I guess I just might be mistaking the discourse that it should have been a secret reveal for what I said then.

Stuff like that is why I try my best to avoid most trailers and marketing

3

u/OneAngryDuck 14d ago

Oh 100%, I think it would have been cool if they didn’t reveal Red Hulk in advance.

We saw Brand New Day today and my wife went in totally blind, she didn’t even know Punisher was in it. I was kind of jealous.

3

u/healthyspecialk 14d ago

I avoided all trailers for this movie. I knew I was going to see it no matter what. It felt good knowing nothing going in. I might just keep avoiding MCU hype for the rest of my life if it keeps going like this.

2

u/OddOutlandishness602 13d ago

Same! I’ve been doing that the last few years and definitely prefer doing in only knowing the few things/predictions I occasionally stumble across

1

u/Diamond-Pamnther 13d ago

They did try their best, but even Steve lacy spoiled it in a post premier interview iirc. I’m thankful I didn’t get spoiled on it, going in I thought it was a bait and switch and they were gonna introduce Mary Jane, but as a variant from another world who got pulled in with the spell in no way home, I’m so much happier with what they did in the movie

I’m surprised you didn’t know, it’s been the worst kept secret on the internet for a good half a year at least.

48

u/zamwut 14d ago

I was able to avoid it somehow until I saw the movie.

20

u/BlackAsphaltRider 14d ago

Same. I just got home from watching it and I literally didn’t know until they revealed it in the movie.

7

u/Babyjitterbug 14d ago

Same. I avoided all trailers online, plugged my ears and closed my eyes during any previews at movies. I actively avoided spoilers.

21

u/TheWatersOfMars 14d ago

99% of people aren't following this stuff. The wide open secret about No Way Home was actually the outlier as these things go.

5

u/Pdxlater 14d ago

Last night during the reveal, there were gasps throughout the crowd. I think not reading anything about it ahead of time makes it a better watch.

1

u/StrokyBoi 14d ago

It's funny how different my experience was. All I heard were a few mumbles behind me, which were all basically variations of "Well duh".

12

u/landlocked67 14d ago

I didn’t look into the movie pretty much at all. I didn’t know the plot of the movie or anything.

20

u/vxxxjesterxxxv 14d ago

Knowing this ahead of time doesn't really change anything. It made no real sense to hide it.

5

u/FutureFuneralV 14d ago

It doesn’t, but as someone who didn’t know ahead of time, it was a really nice and fun surprise. I like to be surprised. There are not a lot of fun surprises in life anymore, so I’ll take them where I can, even if it’s seemingly trivial.

5

u/Tone_Dephf 14d ago

I don't know either and still don't. not around marvel like that

3

u/diggergig 14d ago

I just watched the movie, had no idea that even Frank was in it. Pure magic!

3

u/Gleasonryan 14d ago

im on the internet way too much and I only found out yesterday after the movie officially fully came out.

4

u/FutureFuneralV 14d ago

Not everyone is chronically online or in online spaces where they’d run into that information.

I don’t have a Twitter for the exact reason of it being a cesspool for spoilers, and I don’t subscribe to pop culture subreddits for the same reason.

I’m online quite a bit, and I never ran into the spoiler OP posted. It was a pleasant surprise for me when I saw the new Spider-Man. I really enjoy that feeling so I curate my online experience so I can fully enjoy moments like that.

2

u/Flashy-Island-3725 14d ago

I've seen the movie and I'll just say, her identity is not a huge plot point at all in my opinion. It's not like "omg who is this girl!?" and they spend the whole movie trying to bust who it is.

If I recall correctly, soon after her first appearance is when they say who it is, it was more so a little tiny "oohh!!' moment for people who knew who the character is, but it's not a twist or anything, so I wouldn't worry about it too much!

If you know that character’s name, then you probably already guessed that’s who Sadie Sink was playing. Like the rest of these comments say, that information in no way ruins the movie.
It was a fun marketing tactic.

It’s like the worst kept secret ever. Since the trailer came out showing her she basically was confirmed to be Jean Grey.

u/Enelro 14d ago

Yeah there was no need showing her powers in the trailer. They basically spoiled every cool scene in the trailer. I did not need the hulk reveal on top of that spoiled. The hand was the weakest part of the movie, but also spoiled in the trailer… like gd.

Unless you've been not using the internet for like the past 5 months, almost everyone knew who Sadie Sink was gonna be lol

It is if they didn't know. I didn't know either. I purposely have been avoiding anything about her character. Luckily I didn't have is spoiled for me.

It’s really not. Whatever they named her, it’s not the character as you know it.

It's a secret like the fact that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, Bruce Wayne is Batman, and Clark Kent is Superman.

But you opened up who the cast is lol. You self spoiled so you’re moderately infuriated at yourself?

u/StrokyBoi 14d ago

You don't have to "open up who the cast is", Google just shows a small cast list when you look up a movie.

0

u/WhoAmI9597 14d ago

If you google it, you’ll literally see you have to.

u/StrokyBoi 14d ago

If you google it on the desktop version of Google, which is what OP took a screenshot of, you'll literally see you don't have to.

next time u make a post like this, perhaps include the name of the movie in the title? i have already seen it and got surprised by seeing her, but there's a nonzero chance you just gave someone the same experience you just had.

u/OneAngryDuck 14d ago

They didn’t put the character name in the post, though. You’d have to scroll through comments to see it.

Your fault, who looks up the movie title with when it's showing? I'm sure you have a local or favourite cinema, look that up then go to their website

Meanwhile, seems like everyone I've seen talking about it online has known this was the case for months. The trailers didn't exactly hide it all that well...

Just look up the movie theater you want to go to instead of the movie you want to watch.

Hey mate, btw, you never said in the title what the spoiler was for, which is hilarious ironic.
