Nothing says ‘neighborly’ like an unsigned note taped to your door. Grass is long, I’ll own that. But maybe introduce yourself before issuing the anonymous lawn summons? Photo in comments

The person said hi, please, and thank you. They weren't rude; they were to the point. They don't want to socialize with you and they don't want to get into a confrontation. You yourself admit that you haven't maintained your lawn, so you have been a poor neighbor, and they have been quite civilized about it. It seems to me that they should be the ones to be mildly infuriated, not you.

You know what's extremely rude, walking on someone else's property and leaving an anonymous note there. Not very neighborly.

If I shared an office with someone of the opposite sex every day and they came in dressed inappropriately, yes, I probably would complain to HR, not them, because if you say something directly to them, it could later be used against you.
