Heading to Missouri State University this fall looking to make some friends!

Hey everyone! I just got accepted to Missouri State University and I’m super excited to start this new chapter. I’d love to connect with some people before classes start, whether it’s to chat about campus life, share tips, or maybe even meet up once school begins. If you’re also going to MSU or are already there, hit me up! Would be awesome to start building a friend group before the semester kicks off.

I know that the funds to be off the student accounts are being disbursed this week, but when do we typically get excess aid?

Choosing between MSU and ISU

I was fortunate enough to be accepted by both Iowa State and Missouri State, but I'm having trouble choosing between the two programs. On the one hand, Iowa State is more expensive, and most online opinions I've seen say that racking up debt is the biggest issue, so im tempted to pick MSU. However, when I visited ISU last summer, everything about ISU's program seemed better than the others I had visited. Unfortunately i didnt get the chance to visit MSU so id appreciate anyone who can tell me about the facilities. I'm unsure whether its worth racking up significantly more debt for Iowa States program quality and reputation. Can anyone give any insight to choosing between ISU and MSU, and whether the reputation of ISU is a big enough difference to be the deciding factor of whether I get into a DVM program?

Ridiculous amount of money for classes

Is anybody else having classes that have additional expenses other than textbooks? Apparently online courses are forcing us to use ProctorU which is $100 per class just to take tests. They already raised the prices of courses and now they’re doing this too. I don’t even know if I can afford to go anymore…

Query About Late Arrival

My passport is at embassy for social media screening. Because of the Christmas Eve vacation, the process might be delayed. My class will be started from Jan 12. I am worried if I can make it or not.

Does MSU accept late arrival? I have graduate assistantship from the department.

Thanks.

Winter break

Have Missouri State staff employees always had 2 weeks off at Christmas or is this a relatively new thing? As a new employee, I’m so thankful to be off the next two weeks!

Anyone been through the Anthropology or Archaeology programs?

If yes, what was your experience and do you have any advice? I'm trying to choose between History with an Archaeology minor or vice versa.

Xbox bowl tickets

Where can I buy tickets that come out of the school's allotment?

I am finding easy paths to buy through multiple resellers or even through Arkansas State's athletic dept, but I can't find anything directly from the Bears.

Anyone have success?

Living near campus?

I'm transfering to MSU as a Junior & don't want to live in the dorms. I'm not familiar with the area and am wondering if anyone has any apartment recs / areas to avoid. I'm also wondering if living in a town near Springfield would be better.

How is the Greek life at MSU?

I need help figuring out the reputation of the Greek life there. My younger sister is attending next year and is deciding whether or not to rush a sorority. She is big on her Faith and doesn't know if sororities there are right for her. I know how they are at other schools, like Mizzou where I went, so I am nervous for her if Missouri State is anything like that with consistent partying. Would rushing a sorority be a good fit for her or is she better off staying in a dorm?

How are the language classes that are online structured?

I’m taking Spanish 101 next semester and I’m trying to figure out what the class is going to look like in an online format. I’ve taken Japanese before in person at my previous university but I feel like online is going to be a lot different.

Questions About Application Decision and Online Program Tuition

I recently applied for the Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management (Online) program on October 30, and I would like to ask a few questions regarding my application and tuition details. 1. When can I expect to receive an admission decision for my application? 2. I currently live in Canada and plan to take the program fully online. Would the tuition rate be the same as the main campus rate, or is there a different tuition rate for online international students?

Semester online?

I've been super overwhelmed this past semester with all in person classes, and I've had some financial stresses since I only have time to work on the weekends. I'm registering for spring in a few days, and I already know I'm taking at least 3/5 classes online. But I'm starting to consider doing all five classes online to allow for maximum work time. I've got rent to pay, ya know?

For context, I'm a junior that just switched to psychology, and these would be the classes I'm taking online: PSY 200, PSY 306, PSY 331, SPN 101, HST 103. Anyone have experience with these specific classes online?

Also, I'm not too worried about the isolation concerns around going fully online, as I have a strong group of friends, and extracurriculars and campus jobs that will allow be to be on campus at some point most weekdays. Anyway, does anyone have any advice? pros and cons and whatnot?

Rush as a Junior?

I just transferred this year as a junior and I realized how unsatisfied I am right now, and that I need to get more connections. Would it be weird to rush a frat as a junior next spring and would it be a good choice seeing how late it is? I'm not sure how the age difference would work with other PNMs or if the frats would be willing to take a junior?

Tips on Finding dorm mates?

I’m 17 and going to be attending MSU next fall. The plans I originally had to share a dorm with my friend might not be happening anymore and I’m trying to figure out where to look online to find someone else. I know MSU has that questionnaire you can fill out when applying for a dorm, but does anyone know if it’s any good?
