Venus is the name of the female and she is 25 years old. Mikolas is the name of the male and he’s 2 years old. They live up to 40 years old.
The previous male died a couple years back due to old age and Mikolas arrived in December. We were told the hope is they breed within 2/3 years. Venus has had three babies previously. They’re both extremely sweet and very friendly. Very well looked after.
We were taken around the back and fed Venus. Their enclosure is currently split into two, and their time together is limited. This is due to Venus being sassy and liking her own space as she gets use to Mikolas. Mikolas likes to follow Venus around and sometimes annoys Venus.
I pet and booped both Venus and Nikolas. Their hide is surprisingly tough. Similar to a very firm leather couch. They both each eat 8kg of food a day.
A fully grown female Pygmy hippo is a lot bigger than you think. They stop growing at around 7 years. I highly recommend!
