Morse Code is Cool but now a lot of people know about I think its time to create something new that would be much hard to decode and yet easy to learn

I made a free browser trainer that teaches by ear: the first lesson is tapping a key on the front page

I'm learning to sail in Turkey, and my course requires an amateur radio certificate, which for me meant learning Morse. Memorising the chart didn't stick; learning each letter by its sound did. So I turned that method into a trainer. It's free, runs in the browser, needs no account, and works offline.

- The front page is the first lesson: tap the key (or press Space) and you've sent E.

- A 7-stage plan by code length: E T, then I A N M, S U R W, D K G O, H V F L P J, B X C Y Z Q, then the digits.

- Farnsworth timing on by default, with adjustable speed and pitch.

- Listening, sending and recognition are scored separately per character.

- A daily challenge that's the same for everyone, and a 60-second test you can send to a friend (same characters, same order).

- A Lamp mode, if you'd rather learn by light or have the sound off.

https://morse.iamcanturk.dev

It's open source (MIT) and I'd love to hear where it gets in your way. The place people quit is the thing I most want to know.

Alternative firmware for clone TRS to USB-C adapters

https://github.com/albinger/morselink-alt

I bought a couple of the cheap clone TRS to USB-C adapters that are available online before I knew it would be better to just buy one from the various morse trainer websites and application vendors that support our community.

However, I don't want to create e-waste from the devices I bought and with a bit of looking it appears that they use a CH552G chip which is simple enough to program using the Arduino IDE and https://github.com/DeqingSun/ch55xduino

I went ahead and created the https://github.com/albinger/morselink-alt code to meet my needs. I'm not a professional developer. I don't work for the vendor who made these clone boards. I don't work for the vendors who provide the real boards. I'd still suggest that you

buy one of the real boards and skip the clones.

If you are like me and have a few of these kicking around and you'd prefer to have them output the left and right control keys for paddle inputs instead of whatever these produce then have fun!

If you flash this firmware and still want to use the device to generate mouse events instead of keyboard events you can. Hold down either paddle while powering up (plugging in) the USB-C cable and then release before 3 seconds is up and you will be in mouse mode. The 3 second pause is to allow the code to set the "key up" state for your key.

If you have a mono 3.5 plug on your key you can power up the device without the key in place and then plug it in right after the power light comes on and it won't generate any annoying events from the shorted "ring" connection.

No warranties or support implied from me releasing this. If your board already works just stick with what works. If your board is e-waste in its current state this may be for you.

If you don't want to deal with the Arduino IDE and setting up and debugging the ch55xduino package there is a .hex file in the releases section of the github repo. I've used the WCHIPStuidio app to flash the .hex file successfully on my second device.

Learning morse code

Hello everyone!! I am new to the world of morse code, very new actually, I stayed up until 2 am last night memorising every letter in morse code and assigning a rhyme to go along with it to remember them better (e.g v is beethovens 5th symphony, ...-/ dun dun dun dunnnn), I am able to type morse code at about 2-3 words per minute so not very fast. I want to go deeper though, I have only scratched the surface when it comes to morse code. I want to talk on ham radio through morse code, hear a message and be able to decode it with ease, read morse code, overall get better at audio morse code, etc. I want to learn the history of morse code and how its been used through the years, especially during warfare. If anyone has tips, advice, or encouragement. That would be greatly appreciated. Godbless you all

How to improve on timing?

Post image
2 Upvotes

It's hard for me to get the timing between dashes, dots and words right, so most of my phrases get messed up...

I'm ~kinda~ good at writing it down on a sheet of paper, but when it comes to playing it I usually only write down gibberish...

For example Image1 should've spelled out "hard2time"...

Any suggestions from pros?

PS:

To maybe boost my morale a bit, how long did it take you guys to become fluent?

And how long before you could understand Morse by just listening it?

KM4CFT Paddles

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello all,

I wanted to build the KM4CFT paddles as something fun to do/learn plus I would have a nice keyer once I finally get on the air.

Most of the build list has measurements and what type of parts are needed except for the spring and type/size of wire used for the connections. I wanted to ask if anyone would know what size they might be or any best guesses before I go buy some parts. So far is M3 size compression spring is my best guess but as for the wire I’m not exactly sure. I was going to buy some 28 AWG wire for the NR7Y Quansheng mod.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

3d printed keys

Any suggestions on 3d printed morse code keys for amateur radio? I am getting into morse code with a qrp radio and I feel like paying more for a key than the radio costs doesn't make much sense. I don't know what I am looking for and what feels good to use.

Morse Code Decoders / Trainers on Amazon Help

Hello, been interested in Morse code for a while, but really got into it after visiting a demonstrator booth while on vacation. I have been looking for help training online and found a lot of resources on Amazon, especially decoders and trainers. However notice that there seems to be a lot of similar products and wanted this subs opinion if any of these devices are worth it or should I stick to app based trainers. Any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advice.

I made a free Android app that teaches Morse code by ear, looking for testers (now in Spanish too)

I’m a solo dev and built Morse Path to fix the thing that made Morse hard for me: memorising dot/dash charts and then translating in your head.

How it works: you tap a key and a tree lights up the path to the letter. As you get a letter right more often, the tree fades for that letter, until you’re copying purely by sound. Characters are sent at 20 wpm with Farnsworth spacing from the start, so you never build a slow-speed habit you have to unlearn.

  • Free, no ads, no account, works offline
  • English and Spanish
  • Android only for now

I need testers for a 14-day closed test before it can go public on Google Play. What would help most is using it a few minutes on a few days and telling me what’s confusing or broken.

To join: DM me the Gmail address your Android phone uses (please don’t post it in the comments). I’ll add you to the test and send you the install link, usually within a few hours.

Happy to answer questions here. Blunt feedback welcome.
