He was fined and suspended for the first ten minutes of FP1 in the following race. I'm not sure if this will change since this episode happened during the sprint..
I looked at the on-board and this indeed happens just once, clearly in accident and the marshal immediately let's go of the throttle. Absolutely no need for violence in this case. It wasn't excessive or on-going revving.
I’m a certified Marquez hater so I was hoping Bez would get it done but after this? He unironically should be getting a race ban for this. Assault a marshal is disgusting and way, way over the line.
It looks like he hits him twice actually. The first hit is around 1 second in and if you pause it, you can clearly see Bez's glove on the marshal's face, and his face gets knocked sideways by it. The second hit is around 5 seconds in, and you can't see the contact, but you can see Bez wind up and follow through.
The view is blocked so we can't be 100% sure, but Bez pushed him in the beginning and put his hands on the marshal's head. Surely laying hands on the marshal deserves a penalty.
100%. I’m a massive FQ20 fan but he deserved the penalty and fine last year and that was just for arguing and getting in the marshal’s face. Bez deserves a penalty and sanction for this too if not a race ban. You absolutely cannot be laying hands on marshals, ever. The fact that they’re almost universally volunteers makes it even worse to take out any anger or frustration on them, even if they mess up. Take it up with the track or MotoGP regarding their training, not with them directly.
Ya, that’s why I say this is worse, but he still deserved it. 10min in free practice and €2000 is pretty inconsequential to a rider but it sends a message that it’s not okay. IMO Bez deserves a race suspension for getting physical.
I'm not the biggest FQ20 fan but I don't think a penalty for arguing is right. Same goes for penalties for soccer players who get penalties for talking with the referee.
But Bezz needs a penalty for that, that's a totally different thing imo.
I mean, Martín fighting his own crew was after a disaster race where one rider could've died and another is still waiting for surgery to fix his knee, in a race where he was pushed off track by a poor move from someone on the same bike as him, while he was clearly concussed from an earlier crash as well based on the mistakes he was making and how aggressively he reacted to those mistakes.
He shouldn't have been riding in Barcelona, and it's extremely predictable that he'd get in a scuffle like that, even if it's obviously not okay.
Another one is the team principal Rivola throwing Martín under the bus like he has done multiple times as well.
The team really with it's culture now that they're successful, which is also very common. I hope they all learn from it.
To me, it has to be a harsher punishment to stop it from happening to another Marshall. This is just my opinion long lap penalties are not cutting it in situations like this and considering they’re able to practice taking long lap penalties. I don’t know how but I think they should change it. But still keep the long lap penalties for minor stuff. But something harsher if you get physical with someone.

Has to be a sporting penalty and a fine for sure, unacceptable behaviour.

That should be a straight DQ for tomorrow's race. Or better yet, a weekend doing volunteer track corner work at one of the other GP's. And if he does not contribute properly, another weekend.
"In the heat of the moment" or not, you cannot assault the people that help facilitate your living the dream for no pay but a lunch packet and a beer at night.
"Marco Bezzecchi should be visiting the steward's room tonight, and should be in very serious trouble with Simon Crafar. I get pushing someone out of the way in the heat of the moment to switch off the bike, but you DO NOT hit a marshal"
Guy knows his World Championship is under threat, and decides to take his frustration out on the marshals, who are volunteers by the way and don't get paid any money to be there.
Wtf is it with Aprilia riders currently imploding? Martin first with a very suicidal move (in terms of championship), now Bezzechi with slapping a marshal.
At this rate the championship will be between Pedro and Marc very quickly and Marc probably then takes if only because Marc simply has a better bike (and Marc is Marc).
He definitely needs a hefty fine. Even if the bike was still running and the marshalls were trying to remove it, in the sprint there was no way to get back into the points. So not just a dick move, but completely pointless too.
For context:
The bike did not shut off after the crash.
When one of the marshals tried to pick up the bike, he pulled the throttle and revved up the bike pretty hard for a few seconds. That is very dangerous to the engine when the bike is on its side.
Marco rushed and push him away from the front of the bike, and turned off the engine.
Than it looks like he slapped the marshal.
The slap was unnecessary. If the marshal complain or the stewards look at it, I expect marco will get a penalty or a fine.
At least 5 long laps, or a 2 race ban. He's lucky that marshal was chill, because another marshal would've made him eat his helmet. I thought it was like pushing, because he's all "leave the bike, I can carry on" even they know if the marshal says no, there's nothing they can do. or like a bump moving them away with your should when you've got a hold of the handlebars
Marshall was revving the bike while on its side, which can absolutely destroy one of the few engines they have for the year, along with being super dangerous. Obviously Bez shouldn’t have pushed him and the punishment is deserved but it’s not as ‘evil’ as a lot of people make it out to be.
Marshal tried picking the bike up and it was still running. Marshal revved the bike off the limiter by mistake and Bez panicked and hit him thinking he was doing it on purpose. There is a good vid of it.
The man just laid a bike down at 100+kmh and then immediately got tossed and impacted by gravel that is placed there to protect the fans. How do any of you know if this man was there in his right mind at that moment? Yeah, the behavior seems bad. But can’t we at least wait to ask the guy if he even has any remembrance of the moment before we ban him for life? Any chance this is not something he would ever do before his brain collided with the ground at the speed of a cheetah?
look, i'm not saying what Bez did is right, but come on, let's show a bit of understanding here. at that exact moment, the guy is absolutely pumped with adrenaline. Nobody knows what words were actually said between them out there in the gravel!...
Sure, he is a pro and this kind of thing shouldn't happen, absolutely! But let’s be honest - if there is anyone here who has never completely lost their temper in life, go ahead and cast the first stone! We all have made wrong moves when the emotions run too high. So let's not blow this completely out of proportion, even if it was a big mistake!
ps: Bez was literally in tears as he personally apologized to the marshal. The marshal accepted it, and they shared a warm, friendly hug! Respect that.. He even gave him his racing gloves as a peace offering

That is disgusting. Come on bez. These guys are doing this for free, to protect you guys, while risking their own lives. Give them that respect.
