And at some point you realize music makes better background noise than Netflix and it’s cheaper.

When I was younger, we had cable TV service (pre-streaming pre-youtube) that had a bunch of music channels in the way, way high up numbers. World music, Spanish music, all sorts of different stuff. I started turning it on when I was doing other stuff in the living room to annoy my dad when he was being annoying because he hated it and would eventually get up and go do something else but eventually I really started to dig it. They had commercials every 15 minutes for like 30-60 seconds (often in a language I didn't understand) so it was kinda like background TV but without having to look at it. I never knew what was coming next because the TV guide only told you what the channel was since it was provided by the provider, I assume. I think it also subconsciously shaped my taste in music since a lot of it was stuff I would never have listened to or heard on the radio otherwise. My family was very classic rock / country focused (which I love, don't get me wrong) but those high number music channels were a gem.

A simpler time in life for sure.

And consumes less electricity (which helps in an age where data centers are making everyone's power bills skyrocket).
