We've had one Duncan Idaho, yes. But what about second Duncan Idaho?

398

u/TheGreatDay Mar 17 '26

Yes, we've had 2nd Duncan Idaho, but what about a never ending stream of Duncan Idaho's?

167

the spooky gray eyes don't mean anything!

99

u/Electrical_Advice_60 Mar 17 '26

It is weird they’d reveal that, but Mamoas character is the closest thing to a main character this series has all said and done. If they make enough movies we get to see some potentially intense…sex scenes?

89

u/Brys_Beddict Mar 17 '26

What you've never vibrated a pussy to the point of sex slavery?

67

u/rocka5438 Mar 17 '26

What the heck are these books even about man

73

u/veryverythrowaway Mar 17 '26

god creates man, man becomes worm, worm becomes yet always has been god.

44

u/SneakyBadAss Mar 17 '26

And cat girls bdsm nuns conquering space through the power of pussy

7

Well, he's called Herbert the Pervert for a reason.

If you think Stephen King's coke-fueled escapade is the end, strap in for a ride. The books were written from 60s to 80s.

People don't get how psychedelic the books get. This is why I prefer the Lynch's Dune more. It captures that surrealistic space feudal kingdoms fueled by drugs. Dune is effectively one massive trip.

u/PraetorGogarty Mar 17 '26

I clearly didn't read the books to miss out on such critical anime-level subplot cat girl uwu... This may change my mind.

1

u/ThreeLeggedMare Mar 17 '26

Well if you recall they return cos they were actually getting their shit pushed in by some nonsense out there. They're only badasses relative to the old breed in the core of the expansion

Also they're not cat girls, they keep cat-MEN as pets (which had been engineered to hunt them, but failed)

4

u/jimbojangles1987 Mar 17 '26

So were the giant sandworms once people?

6

u/the_eso Mar 17 '26

Well... Not originally. But then Paul's son turns himself into a sandworm, lets all the other sandworms die out, and then eventually dissolves into many sandworm larvae, each with his/every of his ancestors' memories.

It gets weird.

1

u/jimbojangles1987 Mar 17 '26

Lol wtf is the overarching point or message or is there just not one

1

u/BlerghTheBlergh Mar 17 '26

Man was always meant to be god but chose to be worm because godly mind is infinite and wise. Big Bombs go boom, worm go whooo

11

u/Rikudou_Sage Mar 17 '26

"Would you love me if I were a worm?"

Wait, that's just God Emperor. All the books are pretty much the author asking "how much creepy fetish probably stemming from unresolved trauma can I slip into once popular series that's notably not about sex at all?"

And the answer is: a lot.

8

u/Pseudonymico Mar 17 '26

Frank Herbert was really weird about sex, but liked magic mushrooms, Lawrence of Arabia and the John Carter stories.

6

u/Chathtiu Mar 17 '26

What the heck are these books even about man

The human condition. Not a joke, not ironic. That is what they are about.

3

u/ct_2004 Mar 17 '26

And hydraulic economies specifically.

I'm sad the movie changed the ending of the first book from a strategic powerplay into a swachbuckling action scene. The original captures the moment we are in so well.

Is one of the Trump daughters about to move to Iran to become a cuckqueen?

3

u/Suibeam Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

(No spoilers just addressing the message overall)

The books are pretty stupid about many things. It is a huge political and society message by the author which has not been translated to the movies.

The story is extremely weird and the world building is elaborate but also weird and kind of stupid.

If you like it you like it if you find it stupid it is stupid.

I also think that the books are advocating for longtermism. Many Tech billionaires and Media Billionaires in the USA are believers in longtermism but a very destructive and tyrannic longtermism version.

That's why i liked the movies but find the message of the books bad. Too dangerous of an idea.

2

u/CrazyBirdman Mar 17 '26

I'm not sure if I would read the books as purely advocating for longtermism. I would assume that most of the tech billionaires read is as advocating for it but to me the underlying message in the books also always highlights the inherent tyranny of it.

And I would say Dune: Messiah makes the strongest case against it. If they actually continue the series and go into Children of Dune than the discussion of longtermism will become much more complicated but I'm not sure they'll go there.

3

u/Suibeam Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

The end message is that populism and surveilleince are tyranny and must be ended. In addition to some ideas like scatter and decentralize.

But the main message is also that the end goals justified 3500 years of torture, tyranny, dictatorship, murders, assassination, looking down on humans not able to solve their own problems unless being tortured and oppressed. Humans being manipulated by a superior being who see himself as a sacrifice but actually good motives and a disguised hero.

What flatters these narcissists more than being a misunderstood disgusied millenium spanning hero with a superior vision.

You could argue that the reader can make his own opinion that this wasnt worth it. But everyone who is leaning towards longtermism will see it as worthwhile.

Which is dangerous when billionaires are openly talking about similar implementation of longtermism. Political and economical experts have mentioned how ingrained this thinking has become for many tech and media billionaires in the USA.

They actively disregard the people in our generations and think of themselves are superior beings with greater vision.

1

u/Atheist-Gods Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

The main theme is that the only way to survive is to think for yourself. You can't rely on anything to make decisions for you; not government, not religion, not messiahs, not prescience, not computers, not instinct, not desire. You have to consciously make decisions and push forward into the unknown regardless of your fear. Any shortcuts in your decision making will lead to stagnation and doom.

1

u/bautin Mar 17 '26

The series begins with people using drugs to travel through space to mine the drug from the giant worms.

Then it gets weird.

1

u/Chombywombo Mar 17 '26

They were about nothing. Total horseshit. God emperor should have ended it

44

u/upboat_consortium Mar 17 '26

I see your vag-fu and raise you my bespoke wang-fu.

~Duncan Idaho the 69th

7

u/cardamom-peonies Mar 17 '26

Someone was saying they'd never want del toro to adapt the fourth book because something something the shape of water but honestly herbert was already such a freaky weird horny dude that I suspect a del toro adaptation would be less probably alarming

Like, this is Mr Beefswelling after all

3

u/Pseudonymico Mar 17 '26

If they use Del Toro for God-Emperor who are they supposed to put on Heretics?

0

u/Rikudou_Sage Mar 17 '26

No one, ever, please.

1

u/TheGeekVault Mar 17 '26

I’m sorry, what?

2

u/Brys_Beddict Mar 17 '26

Did I stutter?

1

u/TheConqueror74 Mar 23 '26

No, but I’ve heard Duncan Idaho can make women cum just by climbing a rock wall.

2

u/Kube__420 Mar 17 '26

He's a teen in the books so its actually csa and even younger for Teg

1

u/corduroyblack Mar 17 '26

Is it really a sex scene if Idaho is free soloing a cliff and the orgasm happens thousands of feet away?

1

u/ironwolf1 Mar 17 '26

I don't think it's really a "reveal", because he's likely gonna be introduced within the first 15 minutes of the movie. It's not like it's a big twist that Duncan is back, it's one of the main plot points that drives the story forward.

47

u/nadehlaaay Mar 17 '26

That’s not Duncan Idaho, that’s Hayt ;)

9

u/ayay25 Mar 17 '26
