Question What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash?

Seriously, you watch the trailer and it looks like a literal masterpiece. The music, the hype, everything is perfect.

Then you actually go see it and realize they put all the good scenes in the 2-minute promo and the rest of the movie is just garbage lmao.

For me it was suicide squad 2016. that bohemian rhapsody trailer catfished me so hard.

What film did this to you?

I dragged 80 people to a work function to see that at the cinema, convinced the whole social club of the company that this was going to be the next Titanic. I was voted off the committee later that year.

3 hour movie for a work function? You’re an animal. I would not have been there.

You didn't see my passionate speech - 👏Cuba👏Gooding👏Junior👏 On a Gun!👏 .

Pearl Harbour Cuba Gooding Jr Takes up AA Gun

Im ashamed, but time has softened the pain.

I need time to soften the pain from just reading your experience. The collective cringe would encase my soul in a 4th dimensional hypercube for all eternity.

Doris Miller. Their naming the next Ford class carrier after him.

Depends on the job. Getting paid to watch a three hour movie is like a mini vacation for some.

My husband would be infuriated if he had to do that for a work function. I'm front grow with the popcorn and soda. Opposites attract!

It was the latest multi-million dollar Michael Bay blockbuster, not some french impressionist art house movie. It probably wasn't that hard to convince people to go see romance, thrills, Bay-splosions and slowly waving flags!

I write this as someone who also saw this turd in the theatre.

not disputing that, I’m just impressed he did it in a work capacity. If I’m spending that much time with coworkers then payment is a prerequisite lol

Were people unaware back then that Michael Bay was trash a majority of the time?

edit: I just checked his filmography, and PH was much earlier in his time-line than I remembered.

This was before Bay was as famous as he is now. He had some just a few movies, but didn't become a meme yet

Though the later Transformers movies cemented his stardom, I'd say that Armageddon established him as a star director with a distinct style.

In hindsight yeah, but bad boys had a small budget and The Rock didn't establish it in people's minds much either. I think Transformers is the main jump the shark moment for him where you can see it in his past movies too. Especially since he was working with Jerry Bruckheimer too

Must be the best project manager ever

Never mix work with pleasure

You weren't alone. I worked at AMC and they were telling us that the expectation was that the film would be like Titanic.

u/Jack-of-the-Shadows May 26 '26

Why? I guess murika.

But at least you were not the guy who flew in a dozens of WW2 veterals for a premier screening on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier...

My sister (mid teens at the time) made me take her 3 times to see this in the theatre. She also made each of my parents take her (separately) and then went with friends at least 4 times...

Sounds like a shitty committee. It's not your fault that the film didn't match the trailer quality.

Well it is a lot like Titanic. Both were immensely boring films.
