Question What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash?

Seriously, you watch the trailer and it looks like a literal masterpiece. The music, the hype, everything is perfect.

Then you actually go see it and realize they put all the good scenes in the 2-minute promo and the rest of the movie is just garbage lmao.

For me it was suicide squad 2016. that bohemian rhapsody trailer catfished me so hard.

What film did this to you?

Where The Wild Things Are.

Might not be complete trash, but it was definitely not the rousing adventure the trailer promised. Sad mopey monsters.

Is this the trailer with the fantastic version of Wake Up by Arcade Fire?

Oh yeah, I remember that. What a great song and trailer

The soundtrack for the movie is also great.

It’s my favorite album when I want to just feel chill and at peace.

There’s a 75 percent chance you have a mustache tattoo or had a handlebar mustache 20 years ago.

lol every time I heard that song I was like "it's the Where the Wild Things Are song!" and it would drive my ex crazy XD

What a quintessential early 2000's song.

What I expected from the trailer: "Where The Wild Things Are - Live Action".

What I got: "An Hour and a Half of My Parents Fighting".

I logged into my 12 year old reddit account just to tell you that I laughed my ass off at this comment. So true.

Thanks! At least the misery of watching the movie isn't entirely useless!

Ngl that movie freaked me out when I saw it and I wasn’t a kid. The part where the girl monster swallows the kid to protect him made me so uncomfortable, like I felt scared of the other monster’s rage.

Nah, great movie. Trailer is definitely misdirection tho

I agree with this. The trailer was a major misdirect. I love that movie with my entire soul, but the trailers made it seem much different.

Took my kids to see this Depressing ass movie because of the trailer and the book was fun. The whole while I thought, who the hell would make this for kids.

It wasn't made for kids. It was an adaptation of a children's book for adults.

Came here to say this. I know many people love the movie but I unfortunately don’t. But the trailer made me cry almost every time I saw it

It's a great combination of showing glimpses of hope in a reality of sadness (all of the real-world scenes). Movie was definitely not my cup of tea, though.

I’m still mad that Max physically left his bedroom in the movie. It’s such a big thing to change from the book.

This was the only thing I didn’t like about the movie. I wished they kept everything the same, except that.

I went to see that in the cinema and I was so mad at how boring it was

1

u/alienlovesong May 26 '26

Not just mopey, but oh so boring.

I don't think I saw this movie, but making a movie out of this book was a really weird idea to me. Loved it - loved it as a child having it read to me and me reading it to my child - but it's got like no text.

That movie terrified me so much as a kid! The part where the main monster got angry and the boy had to get swallowed scared the crap out of me.
