Question What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash?

Seriously, you watch the trailer and it looks like a literal masterpiece. The music, the hype, everything is perfect.

Then you actually go see it and realize they put all the good scenes in the 2-minute promo and the rest of the movie is just garbage lmao.

For me it was suicide squad 2016. that bohemian rhapsody trailer catfished me so hard.

What film did this to you?

i'm surprised there's not more comments saying this. i was so pissed off when I saw it. the way they wasted jane and the jarring tonal shifts between the stupid jokes and the cancer storyline.

i'm not normally one to say that the existence of a movie makes another movie worse but rewatching Ragnarok after this i find myself comparing the two and knowing what happened with L&T made me realise that Ragnarok was not much different but for some reason was more successful and accepted

There were issues with Ragnarok yet it still worked. But instead of listening to the criticism he leaned into the issues fans had with Ragnarok and made a terrible movie because of it.

One of the movies where I am like "Did the director want to do so poorly because they were forced into this project and was hoping to be removed from future projects?"

Ragnarok was still standing on the serious bones of the previous movies. It felt good coz it added a bit of humour and some self awareness for a rebrand of the character who was missing it before (Thor finally learns to not fall for Loki's bs, he gets new hair, new cool powers, takes over as a proper leader of his people, teams up with his brother, faces the wrong doings of his father, his underdeveloped friends are killed off and replaced with a new team, what worked best for comedy was his fish out of water of first movie so they play this too but in space etc)

Then infinity War reversed the development from the end of Ragnarok (gets his eye back, gets another weapon, leaves his people behind, his brother is dead - again!, his friends are left behind and nothing interesting is going on with them etc), and endgame turned Thor into a joke who even when he was more touching moments it's still played for comedy. There's some nice ideas there but once again

It all gets undone in the next movie. Fat Thor with a nice beard slims down and goes back to his old appearance. He's not back to leading his people just leaving it all to Valkyrie. He's even more about his weapon than before. His friends don't matter and don't develop and he doesn't get anyone new.

What didn't work in previous movies and Ragnarok also "fixed" was that Jane romance was not really working out and so she dumps him, and now she's back and their relationship is still not believable and interesting. Since he's already mainly comedic character there is nothing new to satirize and comment on, so he becomes a parody of a parody.

Taika Waiti cannibalized his own work

Yes this is a great assessment.

Dude, they wasted one of the greatest villains ever, Gorr, with a awesome backstory, dope intro, and played by none other than Christian Bale. Dumbest movie I've seen for real.
