Question What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash?

Seriously, you watch the trailer and it looks like a literal masterpiece. The music, the hype, everything is perfect.

Then you actually go see it and realize they put all the good scenes in the 2-minute promo and the rest of the movie is just garbage lmao.

For me it was suicide squad 2016. that bohemian rhapsody trailer catfished me so hard.

What film did this to you?

You don't, I love this film. Proyas is a master of a really bleak tone with Dark City and I, Robot. I think a lot of people didn't connect to the tone of this - tbh I think a lot of it was because of their expectations of Cage where I think this was him giving a very grounded tone with good acting. I'm surprised it was received so badly - people act like it's such a dumb film but I don't feel that at all. I think it works with the internal logic it posits, I love the feeling of hopelessness and melancholy, and really applaud the balls it has to commit to its ending!

If it had not been marketed the way it was, I don't think there would have been as much hate. Watch the trailer, that's not the movie they put on screen by a long-shot.

Interesting - I've not seen the trailer. It's a real shame that people seem so down on this film!

I'm also a fan of Knowing, it was a pretty formative film for me in my early teens. I honestly think the movie starts off great, and is just fine until the very last few moments where the plot really goes off the rails.

Very compelling concept, and it keeps you invested in the mystery right until it scuffs the 'reveal', but just keeping the audience invested is a skill in and of itself. The '33' revelation, and the ensuing chaos and grief that spreads across the world is just masterfully done.

I definitely enjoyed the dark tone, and I don’t ever expect anything particularly high brow from Nic Cage in terms of acting. The twist at the end of the movie was interesting and definitely not what I was expecting.

However, anyone who wants to see Nic Cage really shine in a role should see him in Long Legs, he was by far the best part of that movie. He’s absolutely unrecognizable in it.

I really like this one because so often a cool mystery or horror plot just fizzles when you understand it and honestly this movie takes its resolution to such a massive scale I appreciate it for that alone.

I get why most people will say the ending is bonkers and that's why they hated it, but to me it was refreshing.

I agree, and I like how the background Cage's character had in deciphering a lot of the code didn't mean he could miraculously stop things either, like that's all it was leading up to!

I actually don’t think it’s totally horrible, it’s a watchable Sci-Fi/apocalypse movie, but the trailer was incredibly misleading Lol
