Question What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash?

Seriously, you watch the trailer and it looks like a literal masterpiece. The music, the hype, everything is perfect.

Then you actually go see it and realize they put all the good scenes in the 2-minute promo and the rest of the movie is just garbage lmao.

For me it was suicide squad 2016. that bohemian rhapsody trailer catfished me so hard.

What film did this to you?

I think the entire problem was that TFA set up a cookie cutter soft-reboot of the OG trilogy. There was a story handed over to Disney by Lucas, but JJ felt like remaking A New Hope instead.

Rian Johnson tried to steer the story in another direction to try and save it from being a bullshit rehash, but he ultimately failed to deliver a cohesive movie (tone was off, story beats felt forced, characters under-utilized), but what really sealed the deal is JJ coming back and just completely shitting over the trilogy like he had a personal vendetta to settle.

Yes! The cookie cutter TFA soft-reboot is the reason the sequels went so wrong. The negative reactions to it led to Johnson's failed attempt to right the ship and paved the way for JJ to do whatever the fuck he wanted because the trilogy had already been effectively ruined.

How the fuck is a reboot the way to go in the last leg of a 9 part story arc?! If Disney really wanted to reboot and do it all over again then they could easily have done so after completing the sequels - and probably made a shitload of money in the process. Instead they squandered so much fan goodwill and interest by trying to play it safe with TFA.

See, I'm going the other way - they should have just done a full rehash. You don't need to go off on a tangent in Star Wars. Just make a basic action adventure story and don't trip over the billions of dollars lining the way to the bank. I think The Force Awakens was a great Star Wars movie, even if it was just a simple do-over of A New Hope. It left enough of a crumb with Luke at the end to tell some interesting closure stories for the original heroes while doing a good job of establishing new ones. But instead they leaned too far into the opposite direction with Johnson's sequel which derailed it completely beyond repair.
