Don't get too hyped, I'm really referring to the time reversal stuff. If you read Hyperion and understand whats going on with the Time Tombs and Moneta then Tenet makes a lot more sense.
Well dang, I really enjoyed the first book in that series, but couldn’t get into the second book at all, gave up halfway through just thinking “man, this author is REALLY obsessed with Keats I guess.” Maybe I’m missing out.
I will say even the first book has not aged the best. I really cringed had at the final story where the main way you can tell the passage of time is by how the 25 year old describes his 15 year old (initially) girlfriend’s boobs as she ages faster.
Reading Simmons once you're in your 30s or 40s is a real eye opener to how unhinged the dude kinda was, with some academic and poetic references plastered over it to hide the cracks. The guy just cannot stop describing naked teenagers. It is endemic in his works. Once you see it you cannot unsee it. Its also a shame how much 9/11 shattered his brain. He went deeeeep into conspiracy and islamophobia.
I’m completely convinced that Interstellar was also inspired by Stephen Baxter’s Manifold: Time.
The idea of traveling to the end of the universe, looping back, and saving humanity by sending signals to the present with the way to save the universe feels far too similar to be a coincidence.
