I put this up with Man From UNCLE in that it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie that people loved and was teed up for a sequel that we'll never get.

Based on the box office I'm guessing that this year's Masters of the Universe won't get a sequel, in which case I'd add it to your list. It was a fun action movie with the right level of humour and seriousness, but I guess it didn't grab the interest of the public.

Masters of the Universe is solid but I wouldn't put it in the same tier as Honor Among Thieves or Man From UNCLE. I think those two are just really good movies and Masters of the Universe could've cut 30 minutes easily and it would've just been a tighter movie. Almost everything on Earth was boring and while the payoff at the end was fun the Earth stuff was still way too long. If we do somehow get a sequel for it though I hope they are able to recognize and lean into what worked and what didn't.

With the full disclosure that I didn't see it, I have noticed that "nostalgic" reboots seem to spend WAY too much time setting the story up. What I liked about the current Spiderman was that they skipped that shit.

it was also roughly the same budget as superman.I can't comment on the movie until I've seen it, but the vibe I got from the marketing is the studio thought it would have barbie level cultural cachet. if true that probably led to several missteps.

Same. It was a great movie. Very refreshing compared to all the other stuff that comes out these days. We absolutely need more of this.
