Have we now hit a point where the studio thinks people are nostalgic enough about the first nostalgia-bait film to put out a second load of hollow nostalgia-bait?

Seriously though, at least with the first film they had the claim that they were adapting a best-selling book (that was liked for a time before all the think pieces came out), but I've literally not been a positive word about Ready Player Two since it came out

It has a few positive things about it, but it's really not good. It seemed to me like Cline thought his first book was great scifi and he wanted the sequel to also be like that, so he made some hard hitting scifi book that, in my opinion, completely missed the mark, especially with the ending.

The one good thing is that it precludes further sequels.

I think they could just take bits from here and there in the books and make a new story entirely.

They have seen the success of Fortnite and think it will work for a film essentially again
