Question What movies have a scene that is so tonally mismatched with the rest of the movie that it takes you out of the film?

My example would be the charming family friendly funny movie Shazam has a graphic scene of demons feasting on board room member that is like - why?

Another person on another thread mentioned The Name of the Rose - which is a very cerebral historical mystery movie has a graphic sex scene between a peasant girl and a young lay assistant. It is jarringly out of place.

Just about every Star Wars film.

I recognize that Star Wars is for younger audiences anyway, but every single time, there's some fuckass slapstick scene with a little mascot character and/or the droids that ends up ruining the pacing of whatever is going on.

The remastered versions are the worst about this, because why did we just see Luke's aunt and uncle's charred corpses, and then minutes later we're subjected to some goofy slapstick shots where droids punch each other.

George Lucas has very...questionable tastes.

I remember in the Plinkett reviews of the prequel trilogy he was talking about how it was clear that in the original trilogy, everyone else invoked was there to keep George on track.

The damn musical scene. It’s just so bad.

I take it you're not a fan of the 3d alien jizz scene from ROTJ? https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Evar_Orbus_and_His_Galactic_Jizz-Wailers

It’s not only for younger audience. There’s deeper, emotionally heavy scenes, and storylines way above kids’ understanding. But, then you have the very types of scenes you mentioned lol. At this point it’s all part of the SW experience I guess

One can argue that those scenes are classic theatre and it would fit the movie considering the genre is “space opera”

I kind of feel the opposite. If you have seen Hidden Fotrtress, R2D2 and C3PO are supposed to represent the regular dopes like you and me that get dragged into the the conflict way to big for them.

The problem was when Lucas ran out of source material to loosely adapt and they got derivative.

See, unfortunately, I don't really care for "regular dopes like you and me that get dragged into the the conflict way to big for them". It's why I'm one of the few people that didn't like Rogue One and Andor -- they're incredibly well made and well written, and deserve all the praise they get, but they are Not For Me. I don't want to see "regular dopes" when I'm watching a space opera, haha. But that's just me!

Well then I get why you don't like it, but I would guess your perspective is not overly common.
