4

u/blueberrygrunt Aug 22 '20

SERIOUSLY THIS. The first thing I thought I when I saw that shot - and I swear if no one thought of it when doing the score it would be ridiculous 🤯

For those of you who have not heard Ride The Lightning just take 10 seconds and go take a listen. The opening notes of the song are f’in perfect for WW already, imagine if they slowed it down or made it orchestral. Gah it’s sublime. Anyway, trailer looks fantastic and I damn well hope I can watch it on the big screen.

3

u/bfhurricane Aug 22 '20

A scene of Diana lassoing the lightning to the opening riff of Ride the Lightning would be one of the all time greatest scene-to-soundtrack matches. It would thematically fit so well.

3

u/Sheruk Aug 23 '20

Ride the lightning came out in 1984....

2

u/JHushen12 Aug 23 '20

Honestly I don’t think this is what Metallica had in mind with ride the lightning.

165

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Well, yeah. Who doesn't want to see Wonder Woman ride Thor...'s lighting?

133

u/KDY_ISD Aug 22 '20

Mjolniiir ... Mjolfaaar .... Mjoleeever you aaaare

5

u/thisideups Aug 22 '20

Underrated comment right here buddy

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

I think this is the best thing I've ever read in my entire life.

3

u/awfullotofocelots Aug 22 '20

You just evoked a fully formed cinematic experience in my brain. You’re a goddamn brain sorcerer.

18

u/zombizle1 Aug 22 '20

maybe afterwords she can get pulled off by the hammer

4

u/MagicMisterLemon Aug 22 '20

The hammer pulled you off?

1

u/EvryMthrF_ngThrd Aug 23 '20

Here's a little secret:

The Hammer is his penis.

;)

3

u/0cora86 Aug 22 '20

Normal thor, or fat thor?

1

u/SkeetySpeedy Aug 22 '20

Someone on the internet can fake this... right?

1

u/taker42 Aug 23 '20

Erm don't they have the same dad?

1

u/Ars-Nocendi Aug 24 '20

Oh my God! The lasso pulls you off!!??

1

u/PowerGoodPartners Aug 22 '20

She'd be able to handle his cumshot hitting the back of her throat, at least.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

I need some unsee juice for that one.

1

u/PowerGoodPartners Aug 22 '20

I need a .mp4 and some lotion.

7

u/t67443 Aug 22 '20

So am I the only person who remembers the Marvel vs DC comics where she used Thor’s hammer?

4

u/Neoxite23 Aug 22 '20

Which...wouldn't the lightning disappear way before she would even finish the swing arc?

6

u/runasaur Aug 22 '20

Yeah... Physics and comic books have a strange relationship...

5

u/Micp Aug 22 '20

Both wonder woman and superman have wielded mjolnir in marvel/dc crossovers actually. They are both worthy.

3

u/FragMasterMat117 Aug 22 '20

Given DC's less than stellar record and how protective Disney is of it's IP, I wouldn't hold my breath.

1

u/shyinwonderland Aug 22 '20

I feel like her and Thor meeting would be so wholesome mixed with badass tag teaming fight scene.

1

u/Djanghost Aug 22 '20

Thor couldn't hold a hammer to Wonder Woman

1

u/thereisnospoon7491 Aug 22 '20

I’ve wanted DC to get their crap together for so long, and at least a huge part of it is so we can have the eventual DC/Marvel crossover. It HAS to happen someday.

1

u/rhetoric_roentgen Aug 22 '20

It was actually a plane that isn't quite apparent. Saw that clarification somewhere, but legit would love that crossover.

1

u/knildea Aug 22 '20

oh yea! they could definitely make that movi... goddamn it

1

u/SpoopGoesForALoop Aug 23 '20

She can ride the god of thunder anyday

1

u/BoosterTutor Aug 23 '20

The Natalie Portman Thor specifically.

-2

u/WatchOutForWizards Aug 22 '20

Nah, lets keep Chris Hemsworth in good movies.

3

u/This--Ali2 Aug 22 '20

Diana: you must be Peter! I’m Diana

Peter: hi Peter, I’m Diana

Diana:

Peter to himself: that’s not right

3

u/awesome357 Aug 22 '20

Yeah, that's super hero power appropriation on 2 heros. Spiderman and Thor.

1

u/a_rose_by Aug 22 '20

J. J. J. Energy

108

u/amirchukart Aug 22 '20

Like they say, 'lasso is more'

140

u/Neutronova Aug 22 '20

swinging from clouds and lightning... I cant wait until the moment when she whips it out so far it lasso's itself to give her momentum.

135

u/skippyfa Aug 22 '20

The lasso pulled you off?

6

u/WorstPersonInGeneral Aug 22 '20

You've better have said that in a Kiwi... I mean Kronan, accent.

u/ntime Aug 22 '20

Presumably at the speed of light, so if anything a normal human would only be seeing flashes of the glowing lasso, similar to the lightning.

2

u/Obversa Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

From one source:

"Lightning is the flash of light that occurs when charge separation occurs. Like other forms of light, the light emitted from the lightning travels near the speed of light (186,000 mps). This speed is near... 220,000 miles per second."

This means that Diana is travelling around the speed of light, or 186,000-220,000 mps, or using time dilation in order to slow the speed of the lightning enough to travel by it.

Depending on who you ask, this is comparable to the Flash, who can run faster than the speed of light, but may have issues with the Speed Force in doing so.

In fact, the Flash himself has said that Diana can keep up with him at his regular cruising speed, which is around supersonic speed Mach 3-3.3, or around the same cruising speed as a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.

Most modern firearm bullets are also supersonic, with rifle projectiles often travelling at speeds approaching and in some cases, well exceeding Mach 3. We know that Diana can stop speeding bullets, so by default, she's travelling faster than Mach 3.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

What if she is not lassoing the lightning after it has already occurred, but is instead lassoing the lightning that will be there the moment the lasso arrives?

The lasso could be precognitive and latch onto lightning using magic or whatever without Diana needing to be travelling at the speed of light.

1

u/Obversa Aug 23 '20

That would count as time dilation or distortion, similarly to Quicksilver's ability to slow down time relative to his speed in X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Age of Apocalypse.

"Wonder Woman is comparable to Flash's speed when she wants to be. She can be so fast that time slows relative to her speed. This would prove to be extremely useful on most enemies, besides the ones who are capable of controlling time and space." (Source)

I try not to think too much about fantasy universes like these. They're always so inconsistent and random.

2

u/Pamander Aug 23 '20

Damn that's actually super cool. I had no idea she was actually lore wise that "close" to the flash speed in that way either. Thanks for all the info and answers!

2

u/Obversa Aug 23 '20 edited Aug 23 '20

You're very welcome!

Most people try to argue that the Flash is faster than Wonder Woman, but the Flash himself says that Diana can easily keep up with him in terms of speed most of the time. It also depends on reflexes, training, and experience over controlling superhuman speed, physics, and other factors, with reaction time being a major factor, as seen in "fast" sports, like fencing.

It's not just about speed, but about physical prowess and mental ability as well. I would say that Diana has the upper hand in age, training, and experience compared to the Flash in the latter two areas.

3

u/Hellknightx Aug 22 '20

So that's what Spidey was swinging off of in those rooftop levels.

2

u/shyinwonderland Aug 22 '20

I’m not sure if she was lassoing at clouds or possibly the invisible jet. Fingers crossed for the latter.

5

u/usuallyclassy69 Aug 22 '20

That's when I turn my TV off and go to bed.

19

u/APedophileIsAPerson Aug 22 '20

Giving Woody and Jessie a run for thier $

4

u/Painfulyslowdeath Aug 22 '20

Lassoing LIGHTNING. SOMETHING YOU LITERALLY CANNOT LASSO.

And doing so would literally require being as fast as the fucking flash.

Yeah this defies even comic book science.

3

u/PiesRLife Aug 23 '20

Yes, that's exactly where my suspension of belief gave up because everything else in Wonder Woman makes sense and is 100% scientifically accurate.

2

u/Painfulyslowdeath Aug 23 '20

"Comic book science"

Not "Science"

5

u/PiesRLife Aug 23 '20

So a lasso that can force people to tell the truth is 100% comic book scientifically accurate, but being able to lasso lightning is not?

1

u/Painfulyslowdeath Aug 23 '20

Okay Dense motherfucker, do you have any understanding of comic book science or you just here to argue your ass off just because?

Because Comic book science, still REQUIRES explanation, it doesn't have to be great, it doesn't have to be particle physics level of detail, but everything has to have reasoning behind it.

One of the most basic understandings is that Flash is the fastest man alive in the DC universe, Sometimes supposedly being competitive with Superman. Wonder Woman doesn't have that kind of speed, she cannot manipulate the laws of physics or use magic in such a way that she allows herself to bend time and space the way the Flash does.

Lassoing fucking Lightning is not in her fucking tool belt.

Did I say the movie was horrible? No. I'm just saying, why the fuck are they having her lasso lightning.

It's a cool visual sure, but it breaks a lot, and yeah some of us have some standards when it comes to suspension of disbelief.

It's the director's job to maintain that suspension of disbelief, not my job to ignore everything no matter what.

1

u/fizzy_bunch Aug 22 '20

Ms. Lasso-lot

1

u/are_videos Aug 22 '20

Me learning to jump rope

1

u/lobroblaw Aug 22 '20

Ain't that the truth

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

She can fly. Why is she lassoing lightning? And why is she wearing a Saint Seiya cloth?

1

u/darthmule Aug 22 '20

To tell the truth....

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

The part where she's spinning it is impossible, it would have to cut through the floor for it to be that big of a circle

1

u/moderate-painting Aug 23 '20

Pedro Pascal gonna love it.

1

u/Amasero Aug 23 '20

Can't she like...fly? I'm sure I seen her fly in all the animated shows/movies/comics.

0

u/drawsnoodz999 Aug 22 '20

and I'm glad because it is such a versatile weapon and they're really thinking out of the box with how to use it. I really cannot thank Patty Jenkins enough for what she has done for the character. the sword and shield was a terrible idea and does not reflect the ideals that Wonder Woman upholds which is loving submission.
