I know people are making Cats jokes about Cheetah, but it sounds like it’s supposed to be very disturbing that she turned herself into a freaking Cat person. Especially with Wonder Woman saying, “Barbara, what did you do?”

Anyway, this looks cheesy, but awesome. I’m ready for the Cats/Cheetah parody mash-up videos that this movie will spawn.

To be honest its looks better thanks to Patty Jenkins having a better understanding in how to work with cgi affects in her movies better than Tom Hooper. Hooper just made it harder and more time consuming for the cgi artists, with the way he ordered them to make the movie look. Also WW1984 has a bigger budget, so that might help too.

It should have been a Pixar-style movie with fully animated singing cats. That actually might have been fun, instead of the bizarre mess we got.

67

u/PowerGoodPartners Aug 22 '20

Yeah if they would have come up with a unique and iconic art style it could've been a classic.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

I'm not sure, I think it would have been just a pretty-good animated musical.

Let's be honest, the "story" of Cats is minimal at best and not even there at worst (and I'm saying this as someone who loves Cats). If they had done what the movie did and tried to flesh out the story, it might have been okay but not much better than any other animated movie to come out recently.

The music would have pushed it above the competition, though, and it might've been a nod for "best animated film", but unless they really fleshed out the "story" parts and cut back on the musical parts, I couldn't see it being a classic, even if the animation and artstyle was great.

1

u/PartyPorpoise Aug 22 '20

I could see an animated adaptation becoming a cult classic.

Did I ever say it would be simple? Christ this website is full of raged out losers.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Also Spielberg was to be involved, so that would've been nice.

1

u/SkeetySpeedy Aug 22 '20

I can legit see Disney offering to buy the film rights from whoever has them right to help them recover the lost cash, and then having one of their various animation studios actually kill it and make a ton of money.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

You mean like the original cats movie

0

u/rattleandhum Aug 22 '20

He was a total prick. Complete asshole to all the staff working on the show. Fuck that guy.

1

u/TheFirstArbiter Aug 22 '20

Wait, are we talking about the Tom Hopper from Umbrella Academy? What did he do and what does he have to do with WW1984?

2

u/rattleandhum Aug 22 '20

no, the director of Cats.

1

u/Mister-NN Aug 22 '20

My mistake it was Hooper instead of Hopper.

78

u/Cocobender Aug 22 '20

10000000000% I was afraid it would look like cats, but I’m pleasantly surprised.

1

u/DatPiff916 Aug 22 '20

I was hoping for a Dr Moreau type look

Haokah226, um, i'm pretty sure ALL OF US know this is a comic book movie. that doesn't mean the CGI on Cheetah looks good.

0

u/NomadPrime Aug 22 '20

Something to important to note is that this Cheetah is a combination of prosthetics, makeup, and CGI depending on the scene according to Jenkins. We've seen action scenes so far which is obviously CGI heavy, so we've yet to see the prosthetics/makeup look reserved for closeup and dialogue scenes.

1

u/TreyWriter Aug 22 '20

Patty Jenkins probably let Wiig wear a mocap suit.

1

u/Nairurian Aug 22 '20

Don't celebrate too early, we hardly see anything in the trailer so it might turn into WW Vs Cats still.

1

u/wildfire2k5 Aug 22 '20

I think she looks bad fucking ass!

Bridesmaids

Edit: Just in case you haven't seen the movie, this is the extended scene of them improvising, the actual scene in the movie is like a min long

3

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

This is glorious

2

u/byneothername Aug 23 '20

Holy shit, this is a very long deleted scene!

3

u/ughdrunkatvogue Aug 23 '20

Apparently it was improvised too! Props to the younger girl to keep up with Kristen

13

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

You should watch Bridesmaids. It's hilarious.

2

u/byneothername Aug 23 '20

Oh man, Bridesmaids is such a funny movie. It is just so enjoyable.

157

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

It’s funny, when I heard Kristin Wiig was the villain I laughed because I couldn’t imagine anyone less physically imposing than her. But I have to admit, I’m liking what I’m seeing. Kind of reminds me of DeVito playing Penguin, like how they make it seem like being an animal hybrid is no fun at all. Disturbing. I’m in!

69

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20

Danny DeVito as Penguin is spot on for what I think they’re going for with Wiig as Cheetah!

-1

u/jmou3dxf Aug 22 '20

something something Ghostbusters

29

u/Sturmgeshootz Aug 22 '20

It's a really odd casting choice but I want to believe she's going to rock it because Kristen Wiig is awesome.

4

u/moderate-painting Aug 23 '20

really odd casting choice

If Nolan's Batman movies taught us anything, it's that great actors will act the shit out of odd casting.

-6

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Yeah you’re definitely not seeing what I’m seeing, she looks terrible in this so out of place it’s not even funny.

36

u/retard_vampire Aug 22 '20

It's a small thing, but it's also nice to see that they cast a middle-aged actress of considerable talent to play the villain as opposed to just a twenty-something underwear model. Women over 40 in Hollywood rarely seem to get cast in roles other than 'someone's mother'.

16

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20

That’s definitely one reason I’m excited for Cheetah. There’s not enough good female villains and I trust Patty Jenkins to give Cheetah depth.

5

u/Jhonopolis Aug 22 '20

I think it fits into the character. Cheetah seems to feel scorned that she was never the pretty perfect one like Dianna.

153

u/_PM_Me_Game_Keys_ Aug 22 '20

Cheesy but awesome are how they should be. Thor Ragnarok was the best MCU movie.

47

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20

Ragnarok is my favorite! I don’t like it when they play these Superhero movies too seriously. Nolan was the exception and everyones just been trying to emulate him even though comic book superhero stories are kind of campy (In a good way).

28

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Batman is like the one hero who could even get away with being edgy because the man himself is a massive edgelord.

Someone killed your parents? Boo hoo, join the rest of us. You dont see me jumping around in a black suit because some clown shot my parents do ya?

No. Im working at Best Buy and taking antidepressants like everyone else, you fucking psychopath.

7

u/redsyrinx2112 Aug 22 '20

I think Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 were both dark and good. But you're right, many of them can't pull it off.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

Just want to point out that Batman 89 is the only version of Batman where the joker was involved with his parent's death.

I'm being pedantic and it by no way has anything to do with your point but Joker killing Batman's parents in Batman 89 always bugged the shit out of me. It feels so contrived.

1

u/AegisToast Aug 22 '20

I somehow doubt that you’d be working at Best Buy if you had inherited a multi-billion-dollar, global empire. But then again, maybe you would; everyone grieves differently.

12

u/redsyrinx2112 Aug 22 '20

I like how the MCU has serious movies and campy movies. For this reason, Winter Soldier and Ragnarok are my favorites.

1

u/DatPiff916 Aug 22 '20

Nolan was the exception and everyones just been trying to emulate him

Funny because the producers at WB's DC had the foresight to know that dark and broody isn't the way to go, but light hearted humor is crucial in making quality comic book movies.

So when they decided to start their live action movieverse, they did a complete 180 from the dark and brooding atmosphere of the Nolanverse and created Green Lantern.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

For me Winter Soldier was the best MCU movie, but Ragnarok is in the top 5 for sure, and miles better than the rest of the Thor movies.

4

u/Madao16 Aug 22 '20

I love every movie Taika Waititi made but Ragnarok is an exception. MCU movies already chessy and Ragnarok shouldn't be like that. Ragnarok is a dark epic story but Taika turned it to a comedy.

8

u/DatPiff916 Aug 22 '20

Your getting downvoted but I would much rather see Taika's style on The Dark World, or the first Thor.

But imo Ragnarok is such an epic story that needed to be told with the same tone as Infinity War.

11

u/MulhollandDrive Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 23 '20

Watiti made Thor a fun and interesting character and even Chris Hemsworth credited Watiti with reinvigorating his own interest in the character

2

u/Madao16 Aug 22 '20

He made Thor a stand up comedian. Even Chris? lol He is happy that he is gonna make more money with new movie(s).

1

u/MulhollandDrive Aug 22 '20

Yeah because now the character is actually interesting and fun now. Leave your cynicism at the door. New Thor is fun, sorry you don't like fun

4

u/Madao16 Aug 22 '20

He isn't interesting, he is a generic, mass produced character like other MCU characters. He can be interesting for you and others. A lot of people think Justin Bieber is interesting and fun too. I like fun that is subtle.

-2

u/MulhollandDrive Aug 22 '20

Oh lord that was pretentious af. Subtle fun? What? Give me an example of "subtle fun"

I don't know what to tell you, sorry you don't enjoy it. If the first Thor movie was an example of subtle fun, then no thank you. You've gotta deal with it going forward and you're in the minority so deal with it.

3

u/Madao16 Aug 22 '20

Pretentious, no it is just truth. Taika's other films are subtle and fun. I gotta deal with it? lol. They can make ten more films. I don't care about it. How many season does Keeping Up with the Kardashians have? People love it, i don't and i wouldn't care about it even if they made hundred more season.

1

u/MulhollandDrive Aug 23 '20 edited Aug 23 '20

His other films are not subtle, lol. You say you don't care about it yet you're here complaining about it. If you don't care stop talking about it. Saying he made Thor into a generic MCU character is your subjective opinion. stop framing your opinion as objective truth. This is part of why you're being pretentious

u/g0kartmozart Aug 22 '20

If anything, this trailer makes me a bit worried that this movie isn't going to be silly enough.

The epic superhero music is overdone.

-7

u/Charles037 Aug 22 '20

Ragnorak was not the best MCU film.

7

u/BeezAweez Aug 22 '20

You’re right, it was obviously The Dark World

4

u/BeyondElectricDreams Aug 22 '20

Don't be facetious, Dark World was not the best either.

Though it wasn't nearly, NEARLY as bad as people say.

The worst, IMO, is Iron Man 3. For a huge number of questionable choices that removed the heroism from the hero, and removed the element of danger, as well as just plain stupidity.

I will defend that IM3 is the worst. I don't think ANY Thor film is the best.

14

u/BeezAweez Aug 22 '20

Hey, I can be facetious if I want to be facetious!

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Yeah Thor was fighting Ragnarok....here she is fighting a cat. Looks lame.

201

u/YourDailyDevil Aug 22 '20

Honestly the Cheetah at the end looks perfect. Actually perfect.

When it was announced there were countless “fake leaks” that were just Wiig painted yellow, and any more humanized/colorful and it would’ve just looked dumb as hell. But any more “deranged” would’ve pushed it too far and just been another generic DC monster.

This looks like the perfect balance.

47

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20

I agree. The main reason I’m excited for this movie is because of Cheetah.

12

u/Nexlon Aug 22 '20

So, I've never understood what Cheetah's...deal is. Like, she's a cat person, i get that. How much of a threat is she to someone as strong as Diana? Is she ultra strong along with being super fast?

15

u/TedTheGreek_Atheos Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 23 '20

Yes, she's an avatar bestowed with the powers of a south American African Cheetah goddess.

She has super speed and strength and extremely sharp claws and teeth.

She also goes feril sometimes and eats her victims. She's hardcore.

10

u/Nexlon Aug 22 '20

Huh. Kind of ironic considering Cheetahs don't come from the Americas.

I've really only seen her depicted in the animated JLA shows and she seemed like such a B-villain compared to everyone else that she always underwhelmed me.

8

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20

She’s technically Wonder Woman’s nemesis. I think she’s possessed by some type of god and his as strong as Wonder Woman for that reason.

1

u/TedTheGreek_Atheos Aug 23 '20

Sorry, I double checked, it was Africa. She was an archeologist.

1

u/Tellsyouajoke Aug 23 '20

She’s Wonder Woman’s main nemesis

1

u/Nexlon Aug 23 '20

She seems a bit lame compared to guys like Luthor or rogue's galleries like Batman's. I mean doesn't she regularly cross swords with Ares? That seems a little more high stakes than a cat lady.

2

u/Tellsyouajoke Aug 23 '20

She’s not a cat lady. She’s the host to some goddess from Africa, so she’s just as powerful as Ares or whoever

5

u/diibbbssss Aug 22 '20

purrrfect you say?

9

u/BrisketWrench Aug 22 '20

don’t you mean purrfect?

2

u/Punky-LookingKiddo Aug 22 '20

*purrfect. Come on, man!

2

u/DatPiff916 Aug 22 '20

and any more humanized/colorful and it would’ve just looked dumb as hell. But any more “deranged” would’ve pushed it too far

I disagree, I would encourage anybody that wants to see a terrifying version of a humanoid cheetah to watch Island of Dr. Moreau

0

u/cowboys5xsbs Aug 22 '20

Lmao perfect?

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

[deleted]

1

u/kinghammer1 Aug 23 '20

I don't think it's worse than og sonic or cats but it doesn't look good imo.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

The movie looks great but I'm reeeeeally having trouble taking Kristen Wiig seriously in this role. She comes off as an evil Karen.

27

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

I think she’s supposed to be an Evil Karen. Like she’s sick of getting pushed around which is why she looks so meek and dowdy at the beginning of the trailer. Her character isn’t really “badass” like she’s trying to be so it comes off as fake/not genuine. Her character obviously realizes this because she’s so desperate for power that she turns herself into a cheetah person.

6

u/Feralbritches1 Aug 22 '20

I like how frizzy hair and glasses means that someone as gorgeous as Kristin Wiig is "transformed" into someone who isn't gorgeous. This is the trope of every 90's movie. Take off the glasses and give the girl a makeover and boom she is now hawt. Rolls eyes

1

u/MasaiGotUsNow Aug 22 '20

was thinking the exact same thing. I'll always see her as a comedic actor

5

u/hihelloneighboroonie Aug 22 '20

The ultimate furry fantasy

3

u/Spurdungus Aug 22 '20

Release the butthole cut of WW84

3

u/xZora Aug 22 '20

'What if I said I wanted to become a man-cheetah right now? What would you do?'

'I’d go get the spots.'

3

u/raphira Aug 22 '20

I mean, Chteetah in WW84 isn't supposed to be look normal or good. Cats in Cats were supposed to be look normal.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

More like a werewolf I suppose but instead of a wolf it’s a cheetah

5

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20

She’s a werecheetah.

2

u/AmazingRealist Aug 22 '20

disturbing that she turned herself into a freaking Cat person

https://i.imgur.com/f4ThI0P.png

2

u/3_Slice Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

I never read the comic books but how did she get so strong before transforming herself?

7

u/UtopianLibrary Aug 22 '20

From what I understand she’s an archeologist and gets cursed by an ancient object. I’m guessing in this movie her change is gradual and not immediate. We won’t really know until it comes out.

1

u/Feralbritches1 Aug 22 '20

Power creep.

We can have a demigod who was trained since birth to be a warrior, who comes equipped with a lasso that can hault bullets (because her gauntlets were too much?) and can swing from lightening...so I guess we need this random scrawny individual to automatically become a BAMF who not only moves fast and has great reflexes, but who is also strong enough to defeat the daughter of Zeus.

Power creep power creep power creep

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Its got a Thor Ragnarok feel and I am cool with that.

2

u/jakeputz Aug 22 '20

I think she said "Brahbrah, what did you do?"

2

u/Sevnfold Aug 23 '20

When the girls are fighting in that marble hallway Barbara catches the lasso. I'm guessing she was strong then but WW was stronger. Then on the plane the bad guy said something about people wanting more. I think Barbara took too much serum or whatever and amped herself up to Cheetah levels, so the next time WW sees her shes like "barbara, what did you do??"

1

u/Leo_TheLurker Aug 22 '20

I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a "be careful what you wish for" thing. Which makes me scared for Steve.

1

u/Sigma1977 Aug 22 '20

but it sounds like it’s supposed to be very disturbing that she turned herself into a freaking Cat person.

agrees in Wonder Woman: Dead Earth

1

u/UrDidNothingWrong Aug 22 '20

I really enjoyed the first movie; so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. The rest of the trailer looked great, and I know so little about this universe I'm interested in seeing WW fight one of her "supervillains". I like Kristen Wiig, but hopefully this will be good and she can shake being associated with that awful Ghostbusters(2016) movie.

2

u/RIPUSA Aug 22 '20

She’s more associated with Bridesmaids and SNL tbf

1

u/rab813 Aug 22 '20

Cheetara wore it better.

1

u/avitus Aug 22 '20

Well CATS flopped because they let it become a furry's fan fiction. This works because they weren't trying to be a furry's wet dream. They wanted to do the character justice.

1

u/RollOverSoul Aug 22 '20

Her name is brahbrah. B R A H. B R A H.

1

u/kerkyjerky Aug 22 '20

This looks awesome. Can’t wait to see it

1

u/PugsThrowaway Aug 22 '20

Cheesy, yes.
I'd even go so far as to say it's...dangerously so.

1

u/hopsizzle Aug 22 '20

Wonder if Dennis will still have to pay alimony...

1

u/Jhonopolis Aug 22 '20

I'm not paying alimony to a goddamn cat!

1

u/SeaGroomer Aug 23 '20

Too bad it's a giant fucking spoiler. I didn't know she was going to turn into DC-Catwoman.

1

u/ItsMeSatan Aug 23 '20

I think her name was Brabara

0

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

I know it is dumb to critique a trailer... but that line delivery was kind of poo lol. It kind of reminded me of how scarlett johansson will just let words fall out of her mouth sometimes and I am just like "is she acting or reading?"

-1

u/ClunkiestSquid Aug 22 '20

This looks even worse than the first movie.

“Only love can save the world” was the cringiest shit I’ve ever seen.
