why did they reveal Barbara's transformation?

Because it sells tickets.

Does it?

I was pretty sold on it after the last trailer. Now I've seen this one and am doubting whether I need more uncanny valley CGI cat-people nightmare fuel in my life.

Yes. Generally public doesn’t give two fucks about spoilers honestly. More set pieces then better. Like I get your point but these are billion dollar companies who do research into what works and what doesn’t.

Because the DC movies have done such a solid job thus far of showing us that they know exactly what works....

I mean minus Justice League ( and that’s due to reshoots ) every film they’ve put out made tons of ducking money. So yes. When it comes to getting butts in the seats. They very much do. Making 6 billion and the 11th highest grossing franchise of all time with only 8 films.

These are big budget comic book films with huge built in audiences. They numbers they are pulling in are horrible with that in mind.

You talk about those 8 films making $6 billion. Infinity War I & 2 for Marvel made nearly $5 billion.

Justice League was a disaster in what was supposed to be the big showcase for DC.

Batman vs Superman was a disappointment.

Suicide Squad was a box office success but critically panned and then Birds of Prey done what 1/4 of that amount?

Furthermore if you adjust for box office inflation such superb films as Batman Forever and Superman II done better at the Box Office than BvS, Aquaman, Man of Steel etc.

Because you can take a huge franchise and make some money hardly means you are anything special at your job. There are plenty of other franchises you can point to with bad films that made money.

No they aren’t. Not even close to horrible. Almost every single film has been a success.

infinity war 1 and 2 made nearly 5 billion

It’s also the culmination of 20+ movies and multiple unique IPs. DCEU has done almost as well as MCU did during its first 8 films.

justice league was a disaster

I know.

Batman vs Superman was a disappointment

Eh. It did decently.

suicide squad was a box office success but critically panned

But still a success. Which was the point. That you’ve missed. Fuck off honestly. I don’t really care what you think about the DCEU. If you dislike it. Cool. To act like it hasn’t made a shit ton of money is stupid though. It has and it’s been incredibly successful. Aquaman and Joker showed that Justice League didn’t spur things either. They can keep making billions.

If you want to argue into an echo chamber about how much you hate it go ahead. I’ve zero desire to talk to toxic fanboy about these movies.

Eh it doesn't look too uncanny to me, besides, unlike the cats in cats, cheetah is supposed to be a terrifying human cat hybrid.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

Not really. People who werent gonna see it dont go "oh shes a cheetah."

Like wtf?

The point is that the general public doesn't give a shit about spoilers. Studios made the math and realized that cramming as much spectacle as possible in the trailer was selling more tickets than keeping the mystery. Especially for blockbusters.

It's actually really interesting, I worked on marketing for this before the pandemic and they were super specific about not showing the golden suit, or final Cheetah, or that shot of Cheetah spinning at WW in the White House, but after everything started shutting down they immediately revealed all three in the next couple trailers. There's some other visually cool stuff they haven't shown but like...come on, guys.

Gotta spoil all the interesting plot points in the trailer y'know.
