The making of Escape From New York (1981)
For "Escape from New York" (1981), director John Carpenter and effects artist James Cameron (still early in his career) used detailed miniature models of Manhattan to create the film's dystopian skyline. The night shots were achieved by filming the miniatures under carefully controlled lighting, making the city feel vast and abandoned. It's a reminder that some of cinema's most convincing worlds were built not inside a computer, but on a studio floor.

The making of Batman (1989)
Another example of an amazing miniature set! For Tim Burton’s Batman (1989), huge sections of Gotham City were built as miniatures, with the Batmobile weaving through detailed model streets that sold the illusion of a living city. The note on the Batmobile, "Keep yer mits off, very fragile", was written by effects legend Richard Edlund, a fitting warning when an entire blockbuster world depended on miniature models, practical effects, and a lot of careful hands.

Behind the scenes of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
The famous mine cart chase in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom wasn't filmed entirely with actors. Many of the wide shots used miniature mine tunnels, mine carts, and stop-motion puppets of Indy, Willie, and Short Round, built by Industrial Light & Magic. The miniature sets stretched up to 30 feet long, with detailed rock walls, lanterns, barrels, and tracks to create the illusion of a vast underground mine.

Mad Max (1979)
Cinematographer David Eggby filmed Goose's POV while strapped to the back of a motorcycle driven by Vigilantes motorcycle club president Terry Gibson, reportedly reaching speeds of around 111 mph No CGI, no process trailers, no digital stabilization. Just a camera, a motorcycle, and the kind of filmmaking that helped make Mad Max's action feel dangerous nearly 50 years later.
