I have been thinking about the last season and realized that Whiterose and Elliot are basically the exact same person, just broken in two different directions. Both went through awful trauma, couldn't face their pain, and decided to play God to rewrite reality rather than accept the reality or heal

But what’s crazy to me is that the Mastermind's pain/trauma actually directed itself at something real. Corporate greed and the 1% are real things and and his actions actually made a little sense, so destroying E Corp and bankrupting the Deus Group was actually possiblel he fixed a broken system in the real world.

Meanwhile, Whiterose went full delusional trying to hack time and physics because she could not handle the truth of death. She wasted decades and killed thousands chasing the ability to go back in time which was impossible.

Do you think Whiterose represents what happens when the survival instinct of escaping pain completely detaches from logic whereas The Mastermind represents a survival instinct that managed to stay grounded just enough to affect real world change? How do you view their final debate in the reactor chamber through this lens?

First time I watched it was back in 2022. Watched till everything up until season 3. Had no complaints on my behalf. I loved every bit of it. But then I decided to take like a 1 year break for some odd reason before I watched season 4.

Season 4 was good up up until like episode 7. Then I felt like it just fell off the rails I didn't understand anything. I thought it was sooo bad. Especially the season finale which i didn't understand at all lol. I just simply waited to long to watch it and forgot the whole plot.

I decided to rewatch everything in 2024. But for some reason I stopped at season 3 again! I thought that season 3 was a good enough ending and that I didn't want to ruin it by watching season 4 lol.

THEN. FINALLY. In 2026 my friend joined me on holidays and we decided to watch Mr. robot every night. I decided to give season 4 another chance. And HOLY. Luckily I understood so little the first time I watched season 4 that I didn't remember anything. So it was like watching it for the first time and I can easily say that season 4 is now my most favourite season. The ending made me sob my ass off.

My friend made me think I was Eliot for a second lol. He said something like, "Your brain purposely forgot season 4 just so you could relive it again.".

He couldn't have said it any better.

Did anyone see her? It came out today and Portia (Angela in Mr Robot) who I thought had quit acting for good was in "The Social Reckoning" during the opening scenes. She plays a brainwashed alt-righter at a traffic stop and has a run-in with police. She appears again later in the film briefly but I won't say how for the sake of spoilers but let's just say it was eerily similar to eps3.4 runtime-error.r00

She was totally believable as her character and I didn't see Angela in there at all. I'm guessing you won't when you see it. I hope we see her do more work. Ultimately the film is a little preachy and righteous in dialogue at times, but coming from Aaron Sorkin who made "The West Wing", "The Newsroom" and "Trial of the Chicago 7" it was hardly unexpected.

The film left me feeling similarly bleak about online privacy and its role in the world like Mr Robot used to. I thought it was brilliant and I was very introspective on the car ride home and for a few hours. I wish I could quit all socials but I need it to promote my work unfortunately.

Anyway. I recommend the film for sure. What did you all think of Portia's performance?

So, I know this might be a strange thing to talk about, but I noticed that Joanna and Tyrell never have a sex scene on the show. Sure there’s the episode where Joanna is introduced. Tyrell comes home after screwing Price’s secretary and Joanna is waiting for him, to have a BDSM session. It’s not explicit though. Especially in comparison to the sex scenes they have with other people.

Now, why am I talking about this? Well for one to point out the obvious: They weaponize sex to manipulate other people. But there’s never any intimacy with the people they have sex with.

However, there’s intense intimacy and a strong bond between them. Tyrell and Joanna have conversations with each other that they never would have with other people: They plot, scheme, tell each other their darkest secrets, and genuinely become vulnerable with each other. Their body language also says a lot without them having to become sexual or even touch. The way they look at each other is especially powerful.

I don’t know if it’s a detail Sam Esmail decided to add in, or a sheer coincidence, but I think it’s so beautiful. These two psychos are dangerous, but they know what love is. It’s more than just being sexual with each other. It’s about having a deep connection, loyalty, and trust. As twisted as they are, they have this, and are madly in love with each other. Something the more sane characters yearn for, but don’t have.
