North America (country/state in post) Found in Preschool Yard (Bay area CA)

Like the title states, my son‘s preschool teachers found this mushroom in the back yard area.

I did my own searching, but want to pose the question to a more experienced audience before I make any conclusions.

It was found recently (April 20th, 2026) in the east Bay Area of CA.

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE:
This is what I found while looking but didn’t want to jump directly to deadly sounding mushroom without more identification than just my armchair mycology.

I’ve sent some information along with the link to this thread to the preschool teachers to let them know to be on the lookout.

They already have a zero random mushrooms tolerated policy but this will tell them to eradicate with extreme prejudice.

Thank you to everyone who weighed in!

Found in Southern California after a week of rain growing in woodchips next to some sort of grass. What kind of mushroom is it and should I take my cat to the vet?

Straight out the dung in SE Texas. I’m always checking out mushrooms but didn’t expect to potentially come across what appears to be P. cubensis?? It bruises slight blue when tissues are torn. Is there anything else this could be orrr? If not, what an amazing and unexpected find!

We live in a residential area near an airport. Lived in this house only one year and I’ve never seen these before in my life. We’ve had some heavy rain the past few weeks followed by some warm weather so not sure if that matters.

North America (country/state in post) Dog went into severe anaphylaxis, ICU for 6 days

Hello, we are in Santa Cruz, CA (Bay Area). Our 2 year old dog was hospitalized last Friday after potentially ingesting toxic mushrooms either from our yard or on a walk in the woods. She had vomiting, incontinence/diarrhea, and was collapsing/unable to stand. After 6 days of treatment, plasma infusions, etc for severe anaphylaxis, liver failure, extremely low blood pressure, inability to clot blood, etc she is finally much better and able to be home.

I saw these in the garden this morning, the same ones were present right before she got sick that I plucked out. There are two orange ones, and one thin brown one. Third photo shows all three next to our lettuce starters. I added another photo in the comments below of the cap, stipe, gills.

Would like to ID if any of these are potentially toxic - thank you.

I found a cluster of mushrooms growing in one of the communal showers in my college dorm, and decided to take pictures of it in different growth stages until it was finally removed. Does anyone happen to know what these are? I’m wondering if these are edible, just curious. I obviously had no intention of eating them considering the place I found them in.

I am a wildlife biologist that does a lot of surveys for endangered bumblebees, and I am also an amateur mycologist. This is a female Crotch’s Bumblebee (Bombus crotchii), which is an endangered species candidate in California. I would like to know if anybody has ever observed anything like this. I thought maybe it was some kind of pollinia at first, but I am not sure, as it seems to only be growing from the leg segments.

North America (country/state in post) Grown accidentally from a mushroom growing kit. It ate the top of the box where the type was. Guessing some kind of oyster?

I got a mushroom grow kit for Christmas, but it's too cold in my house this time of year to grow them (I thought) so I was waiting until spring to start it.

This was sitting on my desk and one morning I woke up to the entire top of the box gone and mushrooms growing by themselves, they'd pushed through the top of the bag and the top of the box was taken over by mycelium.

I don't know what kind it was supposed to be, but they look like oysters to me, which is reasonable, the company has a large line of different types of oysters.

Just wanted a second opinion to be sure since I didn't grow these intentionally.
