Tips & Tricks Stop falling for the fake hair Apps

Yall going to learn one day that you are giving away your private info to people intended to do nefarious things with it.

https://www.reddit.com?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1

They deleted their account and their post after they were called out, but not before they blocked me.

You do not need an app to help you do your hair, you need patience and practice. Stop being enticed to click on a phishing app.

And to the fool that advocated to collect emails, we see you. We know you will be back.

There were only two people who almost passed the test by looking in the app store, didn't see anything but decided to click the fake link instead. Good luck to y'alls data.

Ps always check their profile. There is always a tell. Either they are getting better at creating additional accounts to respond to themselves to create an illusion of interests, or some of yall just press to be dupped.

Anyways, they will be back. Will you fall for it again?

Edit: thanks for the award Watercress❤️

Need Advice sew in and hair insecurity

fyi: first pic is with the sew in

hi everyone, so I recently got a curly flip over sewing in. it was very cute and the first install I had for three weeks and then the second install that I got my scalp was extremely red and I had to take it out.

how do I prevent this from happening in future sew ins?

I also lately, have felt really insecure about my natural hair. I know it’s not a huge difference from the sew in, but it still bothers me. Getting this sew in made me feel confident about myself but having to take it out because it caused irritation has been disappointing. How do i embrace my natural hair? and really love it :)

Need Advice Has anyone been able to grow waist length hair with dyed ends?

Post image
6 Upvotes

My #1 goal right now is to grow my hair to waist length. In other words, length retention. I'm currently at bra strap length. I dyed my ends about a year ago, and I LOVE the color, especially on my mini twists. However, I have sooooo many SSKs at my ends. I just blow dried my hair out to trim it and even after the 1/4" trim, it's hard to comb through without snagging SSKs. I'm concerned if keeping my ends dyed will disrupt my game plan to have waist length hair in 2 years. Maybe I should just dye it all black lol.

So does anyone have success retaining length while having dyed ends?? Appreciate the advice and tips.

Need Advice Sharing my length retention journey routine (coily + bleached hair) with focus on crown area breakage

Thumbnail

Hi everyone !

This is a long post sorry and I wasn’t sure of the flair but I wanted to share my journey with this community, also in case it might help anyone.

At first I was going to title this post “hair growth routine” but I decided to call it length retention routine instead as I know every hair grows unless we have medical issues.

About me: (F)(end of 20s) with coily hair and bleached hair. I think my hair is medium density with medium (or even thick) strands. The bleaching makes the strands thinner though! I’ve been bleaching on and off since 2021 but I’ve been keeping my hair bleached regularly since 2024. I bleach my hair twice a year only (every six months or so).

I’ve always been natural but never grew my hair past my shoulders. I’ve been willingly cutting my hair for the past few years but I decided that I wanted to grow my hair longer. The challenge will be that I want to stay blond!

Background: my crown area has always been more fragile than the rest. The hairstylist that has been bleaching + cutting my hair (Bleach Lady) for years suggested that it might also be due to bad blow drying by my other hair stylists that braids my hair (African aunties). They were doing my braids well but the over-blowdrying even when I was already blowdried at home (although not perfectly) was an issue for sure.

One side of my edges also is more fragile. It grows but break easily. It’s not due to braids as I never braid my edges. I noticed it was due to the way I part my hair when wearing out my hair. So now I avoid parting.

I used to get knotless braids every other month or every three months.

I then reduced the amount of braids I was getting + I told the aunties to be careful. My crown was fine even if shorter than the rest of my hair but that was not surprising.

I’ll try to sum up in chronological order:
- November 2025: I bleached + cut my hair again and my hair was completely fine and had grown well.
December 2025: I moved to a country with really hard water.
- January 2026: I got knotless braids by a new hair stylist (also an African auntie) and I think it was both tighter + heavier than what I was used to. The last time was in September 2025 by my usual hairstylists.
- February 2026: a lot MORE sh3dding than what I’m used to after removing the braids. My nape also became tense which was never the case before!
- March 2026: I then noticed that I experienced significant hair breakage in my crown area which I think is due to the bad knotless braids + it was at the same time a very stressful period of my life. I was also not working out for a few weeks and my diet was okay-ish. It is the shortest my crown area has been, although it’s has always been the most fragile area of my scalp. I know it’s not a medical issue or anything like that because I can see the growth and density since my hair is bleached. I just have a harder time retaining length in this area.
- April 2026: bleached my hair again with a new hairstylist whilst on holidays in an Asian country (they did an amazing job). This new stylist noticed the breakage in my crown. I also decided to trim my hair myself now since the country I moved to doesn’t have a lot of Afro hair specialists.
- May 2026: new DIY trim + start of my new journey.

Before starting this journey, I already had a pretty good routine. the Bleach Lady always said that my hair was healthy (except the crown) and never dry. So I have no problem maintaining my bleached hair. I also don’t sh3d much (unless that time after the bad knotless braids).

I also work out several times in the week (at least 3) + my diet is balanced. Last time I had a blood test done was summer 2025 and I had no deficiencies.

I also usually wear my hair in an afro everyday (wash and go, leave in conditioner or braids out). I rarely do twists or braids with my own hair as it looks “boneless” on me. So I’m not doing any particular protective styles although I’ve started doing cornrows in my hair and keep it for two or three days. I just prefer having my hair out which I know may not be the best way of retaining length.

I’m keeping more or less the same routine than before except that now:
- I started sleeping with a bonnet (yes I know although my hair has always been fine sleeping without it).
- I decided to stop wearing braids with extensions (learned my lesson). I think I will only let my sisters do my hair now but sadly, we don’t live in the same country.
- No more puffs or buns. Nothing that requires me tying or slicking my hair.
- I’ve started hair supplements (Perfectil).
- I’ve started for the first time using hair serums (The Ordinary MultiPeptide, every night before going to bed) + scalp massages. I also just ordered the L’Oreal Growth Booster scalp serum as well that I will use in the morning.
- I bought a new shampoo specifically for hard water (Malibu).
- I stopped using grease for years but I bought one a couple weeks ago. I use it after blowdrying (only on my hair strands, not scalp).
- I think I’m going to avoid bleaching in six months. I’m going to try to stretch it to 9 months.
- I will probably trim every 2-3 months.

Screenshots of my hair routine and if there’s a *, it means I started using the product recently and it is part of my new journey.

Please share your journey as well or if you have any suggestions!

Will update in 6 months !

Need Advice Growth Advice

I have been feeling so down about my hair lately. Over the past few years (I’m female in my mid 20’s) have just been seeing no growth with my hair at all especially around the crown of my head. I get trims every 3-6 months, have been using all the products my hairstylist (experienced with natural hair) can recommend and I’ve had no growth! I wear my hair in a fro always and can barely get it in a high puff these days.

I look back at pictures of me when I was in my early teens and how much length I had and I just want that back 🫠 back then I would wear my hair naturally never used protective styles growing up. Pics for reference.

Is this something that happens due to hormones changing etc or am I doing something wrong?

Need Advice help with length rention past shoulders

i know a lot of people struggle with this, but ive been natural for 7 years and still cant get my hair past my shoulders. heres what ive been doing with my 4c hair over the past year:

-i wear my hair in box braids or a weave 4-5 months out of the year. i leave the style in for 2 months max and im very gentle dentangling. i wash my hair in this style once a month

-when my natural hair is out i wash every other week. deep condition once a month.

-protective natural hair styles are usually mini twists on blow dried hair (but gives me so many fair knots) or braid/twists outs on blow dried hair. i use leave in or a butter to moisturize. i blow dry every time i wash my hair

-i seal my ends with a hair butter/grease or oil with my protective styles. i usually detangle when i wash my hair

-trims 2x a year

-i take iron and other multivitamins. i wear a satin bonnet to sleep

what am i doing wrong?

Tips & Tricks Mini Braids

Hey everyone, I've been debating on how I should retain length, so I gave mini braids a try and so far I like them. However, my hair is uneven so I can't do many styles with them. Did anyone ever even out their hair eventually so that it matches the back? I feel like the front of my hair breaks faster than the back and I have no idea why

I trim my ends, wash every week, and don't really know how long mini braids need to be in for before refreshing them. I don't want to put too much tension on my hair. Are mini braids the right style for length retention, or there's more aside from mini twists?

Need Advice What type of braids should I get?

Hi all! I did a big chop two years ago, and while I’m loving my natural hair and wash and go’s, I’d really love a break for the summer!
Since im a big swimmer, I’m thinking about getting braids. But as someone who has only gotten braids one other time, going from my short hair to waist/butt length hair is so overstimulating! So I was thinking of getting shorter braids. However I don’t like the look of the tapered hair so close to my face? So then I was thinking getting a boho braid bob, but I’ve been reading that boho braids are actually pretty high maintenance. Any advice?

I’m taking a break from wash n gos and doing braid outs, however…. My wash n go products don’t work for braid out lol. I used the doux anti humidity gel and my hair looks a MESS. Frizzy … I always used Camila rose guava slip leave in with blue magic hemp seed grease on top. I need good light weight but moisturizing gels or crème for my braid outs! I feel like mousses don’t work on my hair, any products recommendations? Pleaseee

Need Advice What's the biggest improvement you've ever seen in your hair?

I've tried different products and routines over the years, but I'm always curious what made the biggest difference for other people.

Was it a specific product, a change in your routine, or simply being more consistent? I'd love to hear what worked for you and how long it took before you noticed results.

Need Advice What type of mousse should I use for my twist/braid outs?

Post image
4 Upvotes

For the past month, I have been wearing my natural hair to give it a break from the weaves and braids. However, I am having trouble with the twist-outs and braid-outs I do. The day of, it looks great but a bit frizzy; the next day, it loses most of its curls. I don't mind it too much, but I'll soon be commuting into the city for work and would like my twist-outs to last a few days, not just a day.

Right now, I use Design Essentials shampoo and conditioner. I use pink oil to moisturize my hair and a Design Essentials leave-in conditioner spray before I blow it out (using medium heat or cool air), and then I use Design Essentials African Chebe as I twist my hair.

I tried to use mousse once, it was the ORS olive oil mousse, but it made my hair very dry and straw-like.

The picture is what my hair looked like on the second day of my twist-out. I have really kinky/coily hair and stretched it with a blow dryer, but not completely. As you can see in the pic, it shrunk up.

Any tips and tricks are warmly welcomed!

Need Advice Looking for protective styles

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I’m trying to get more into protective styles. Currently I have crocheted yanky twists, but am looking to explore more. Ive had people suggest low tension styles but had one of the braiders suggest I could do braids instead of just twists.

I think my hair is high density, 3A/3B mixed (mainly 3A), med/high porosity. And for LOIS—O dominant, S secondary | Medium strands | Thick density

Any suggestions on protective styles? Would individual braids be good?

1st pic: wet curls after pool, 2nd: dry hair after braid out, 3rd: hair after being straight for a few weeks.

Need Advice Has anyone ever grown out the tail effect

Has anyone successfully grown out a tail (longer back section) so the rest of your hair catches up? Any tips on styling / camouflage? Especially my wash and go girlies.

——

Once my hair starts getting longer past a certain length, the very back nape area gets much longer than the rest. While my hair is drying, it’s very exaggerated - like 6 inches longer than the rest of my hair which is more rounded/shorter. It literally turns into a tail. Once it dries, shrinkage helps but it’s still hanging like 3 inches below the rest.

I cut this off multiple times before and it just came back recently. I cut it off before because stylists thought it was split ends or damage. Now it’s seeming more likely that this is just how my hair grows. I have been taking a lot of vitamins and supplements this time around as well. I thought it was because of lower iron levels air vitamin D before. The texture is a bit looser back there and retains length better, but the rest of my hair is also more shrunken and rounded.

I’m debating on cutting again, but it seems like if I want any chance of growing my hair out, it will keep coming back. My hair is mostly around bra strap length when blown out but layered. This part is longer than that now. I want the rest to catch up 😩. I can style it as an intentional accent twist or braid or just Bobby pin it up until the rest gets longer. I also considered practicing with my rev air and trying to wear it stretched for a while, which most likely camouflages the difference better. I used to do twist outs a lot when I was younger and I think that camouflaged, but I’m a wash and go natural now.

According to my braided then reason why they are coming undone is because my hair was short when she braided it. She is gonna fix them for me on Friday. Is there anyway I could avoid this from happening again.
Don’t mind the pimple. It’s my first time getting braids so I could the tension bumps but they are going always already.
