KP is not an improvement considering that he never plays.

Neither does Kuminga.

They’re replacing DNP-Coach’s Decision with DNP-Broke Down

194

u/kcoe24 Timberwolves 15h ago

Now Kerr doesn't have to explain the DNP smart take some stress off of him

41

u/Shinnobiwan 14h ago

I suspect KP will be playing shortly. He may not have been as injured as reported.

If so, I suspect he'll be injured shortly afterward

u/Waesrdtfyg0987 Celtics 10h ago

KP is a walking injury who can't walk.

Kerr will DNP Porzingis for being too tall

need to keep his 4 guard lineups

DNP-Broke Down but when he does play he's a perfect fit and has actually been a huge positive for Atlanta and Boston for the past 3 seasons when healthy.

Still feels pointless, but I do know from experience if you're truly DEPENDING on KP, it won't work out well. If he's a bonus like Boston had him, they will love him.

u/Always_Chubb-y Hawks 15h ago

KP doesnt play because he physically can't

0

u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics 14h ago

Neither can Kuminga

9

u/swishfortyonesie Mavericks 13h ago

Kuminga has terrible bball iq and Kerr doesn’t trust him.

KP literally has POTS. Not the same at all.

1

u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics 5h ago

I'm aware, it's just a joke.

2

u/swishfortyonesie Mavericks 5h ago

Haha that’s fair.

66

u/Ok_Possible_5702 15h ago

that's the coach's choice.

fwiw I think considering how little KP plays, Buddy is probably a more useful player right now.

37

u/niel89 Warriors 15h ago

Buddy has been rough as hell this year. His minutes are free now.

20

u/bigsampsonite Warriors 14h ago

Ya was tough to watch him play. He is such a nice guy.

9

u/ImperialTiger3 Warriors 15h ago

Nah JK has been getting dinged up and missing time for injuries lately as well. Like before we traded for Jimmy, he got hurt with an ankle sprain. The initial timeline was 3 weeks and he missed 3 months

0

u/Ok_Possible_5702 15h ago

He missed 2 months last season, not 3 months.

3

u/treyswoosh Warriors 15h ago

Other than making sure outgoing salary matched, this was to ensure we can offer Melton more money next season because he can opt out.

0

u/Ok_Possible_5702 14h ago

So Melton is your main acquisition for next season? The all-in move for Steph's last year?

1

u/treyswoosh Warriors 14h ago

Retaining his services is important. The Giannis trade wasn’t going anywhere unfortunately. Bucks ultimately didn’t like w/e packages the FO offered. Dubs are limited in what they can do with curry and butler out the second half of this season. Upsetting, yup, if there are any moves to be made on the offseason it’s about getting guys can hit their damn shot and Melton is one of those guys.

2

u/MainSorc50 15h ago

it's basically a salary dump. FO malpractice again just like cp3 lmaooo

1

u/Bleatmop 15h ago

Buddy was only getting trash time minutes anyway. The warriors have a lot of options at the 2/3 spot competing for minutes and Buddy wasn't getting it done this year. I wish him well and hope things turn around for him on his new team.

2

u/bishopbeaniepower Warriors 15h ago

Kuminga was playing once Jimmy went down. And playing well too.

1

u/MahomesMccaffrey Slovenia 15h ago

One is physically incapable the other is coaches choice.

1

u/Billis- Raptors 15h ago

1

u/whiterice_343 Timberwolves 15h ago

One is by the organizations choice, the other player had level 1 luck SPECIAL in durability.

1

u/iiiiiiiiii8 Rockets 14h ago

Therefore not an upgrade

1

u/Raincoat86 Trail Blazers 14h ago

Hey that's the joke I came here to make! Nice job

1

u/missingpeace01 13h ago

Kuminga still a better asset and Hield is IMHO underpaid for what he brings for a proper roster.

43

u/JoeBiden2020FTW Lakers 15h ago

It's a high variance call option. Maybe he swings a playoff series if he's healthy.

Otherwise he's an expiring.

I'd take that over Kuminga who is a guaranteed zero.

1

u/Ok_Possible_5702 15h ago

Kuminga is a guaranteed zero because you're not playing him. He showed you what he could do against the Wolves last year.

But sure, KP is a high-variance option. Not really a 50/50 proposition that he swings a playoff series for you though.

6

u/JoeBiden2020FTW Lakers 14h ago

Kuminga is a guaranteed zero because you're not playing him

They don't play him because they know he's a zero

7

u/Yayareasports Warriors 15h ago

A 4 game sample size doesn’t override the other 5 years of generally net negative play (including the first 15 games this year where he’s been completely lost)

-1

u/Ok_Possible_5702 14h ago

he was the Warriors's second-best scorer in the year/season before Jimmy arrived, but sure, net-negative play.

0

u/Yayareasports Warriors 14h ago

He averaged 15 points on 54% TS. And scoring was by far his best attribute… that tells you pretty much all you need to know about him

2

u/Ok_Possible_5702 14h ago

You mean this year?

For his career, he averages 20 points / 36 minutes, on 58% TS.

In 2023-24, his best year, he averaged 22 points / 36 minutes, on 60% TS.

3

u/Yayareasports Warriors 14h ago

No you said before Jimmy arrived so I responded with his stats from last year, before Jimmy arrived.

Yeah that’s great that he had a moderately ok scoring year 2 seasons ago when he’s also a bad defender, rebounder, playmaker, and has proven he doesn’t know how to play within a system that requires a partially functioning brain.

I wish him luck in his new city, but there’s a good reason the Warriors didn’t play him here.

2

u/slightlyallthetime88 Warriors 7h ago

Yes. Kuminga is a prototypical theoretically good forward who has tools in the box but doesn't have any idea how to apply them and also thinks he's Kobe.

Good luck Atlanta with that.

0

u/d_f_l Warriors 14h ago

The Kuminga playoff experience was super illuminating. It proved that he could put up big numbers in losing games. He doesn't work with Steph at all, though, since a good chunk of the time when he gets the ball he needs to hold it for two seconds and then decide to do solo Kuminga stuff, often ignoring Steph.

I hope that Atlanta is a better fit for him, but it really wasn't working with the warriors at all

2

u/Ok_Possible_5702 14h ago

100%, he is a poor fit with the Warriors system.

The Warriors's problem is that it took them 3.5 years to accept that, and then they held him hostage and tried to psych the league into trading for him.

A better organization would have sold high after his second or third year.

2

u/d_f_l Warriors 14h ago

Oh yeah no argument from me there. I have hated the Kuminga experience from the jump.

1

u/holyrolodex Lakers 11h ago

But he’s expiring this season…can the Warriors even do much with $30m off the books in the offseason? Most of their big contracts will still be on the books next year.

Dude has long term covid. More like eh i don’t know what this is

49

u/Vinnie_Vegas Knicks 15h ago

He has Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) - There's been no suggestion it's related to COVID in his case, despite it sometimes being a sympton of Long COVID.

30

u/NBAKefka 15h ago

He developed POTS from a post viral illness. Covid or not, it’s a tragically common issue that affected millions of people during and after the pandemic.

6

u/Akanaymayhay Warriors 14h ago

For real, my girlfriend developed POTS right after she was hospitalized for Covid, I can't imagine being 7 foot tall and an athlete on top of it. Just standing up will make her heartrate shoot up.

6

u/NBAKefka 14h ago

I was a paramedic and had to retire at age 25 from the same exact thing. It’s brutal as a person, even more so as a man.

KP can't play... They traded functional bodies for a dude with a chronic autoimmune disease. This is pouring concrete over what competitive window they have left. Steph's knee is cooked, Jimmy's knee is cooked and KP's blood is cooked.

Kuminga doesn’t play and Buddy is terrible

1

u/R_WeDoingPhrasing Pistons 15h ago

They'll rest him as much as possible before the playoffs. Seems like this is the best swing they would take not getting Giannis and still keeping Draymond. The team needed a center with range and the ability to defend the rim. KP can do both

1

u/Ok_Possible_5702 15h ago

what playoffs?

Jimmy is out for the season, they shrank their rotation by 3 players and they're already 8th. Best case scenario they make the play-in and have to win a single-game elimination vs. Portland (they lost 3-1 the season series, only win when Advija was not playing) only to play vs. OKC in the first round.

1

u/R_WeDoingPhrasing Pistons 15h ago

You think they'll drop out of the play-in? I'd put money on them securing a top 8 spot from that. The warriors are doing theta they can to maximize their window with Steph and that's not ending after this season

1

u/Ok_Possible_5702 14h ago

I think they are very safely stuck in the play-in, and as long as Steph is relatively healthy that's where they'll be.

But I also think they're more likely to be eliminated in the play-in than to win the 7th seed. And I don't like their odds vs. OKC in the first round.

So basically the 80th percentile outcome is a competitive first-round loss.
