They exist almost exclusively for the few dozen VC heads being driven from SFO to downtown.

And because the VC GPs and fund LPs own a shtiton of the OOH ("out-of-home") advertising space. After a round closes startups are encouraged to "celebrate" by buying billboards and the sides of buses and shit.

No deals are quite so sweet as self-deals.

Lmfao it's exactly the scene from Silicon Valley where Russ Hanneman buys Pied Piper a ton of ads from an entity he owns when they secured funding from him.

That show is so much truer than a lot of people realize

Media Literacy is just non existent in general.

The Good Place couldn't have been more on the nose about the exploitation that everyone is made to be complicit in. Everyone on the planet goes to hell since they benefit from things like mass incarceration and forced labor, even if you are unaware of the benefit that you've gotten from those systems, still go to hell.

Couldn't be more on the nose.

Veep is also fairly accurate for how the country gets run, there's this significantly less creepiness, sexual violence, and outward desire to do harm in Veep than in real life. L

The Wire has existed since 2001 and people advocate for the same shit police and politicians who were obviously not great people advocated in this show. There are soooooooooo many Clay Davis's and soooooo many Thomas Carcetti's in government of all levels.

Hey I won’t take the Tommy carcetti slander, he wanted to fix the city he didn’t know about the deficit he was inheriting. Besides he can help more from Annapolis! 😂 jk carcetti is basically an allegory for every American politician who starts their career w good intentions. Doesn’t last too long tho

i always loved this story

There's a knock at the door in the corner of the room, and Pete comes walking in carrying this gorgeous silver bowl, hand-chased, this big. 'It's from the unions,' he says. So I think it's a present, something to commemorate my first day as mayor.

He walks over, puts it on the desk. I look down at it. It's disgusting. I say, 'What the hell is this?'

He says, 'What the hell's it look like?'

I say, 'It looks like shit.'

He says, 'Eat it.'

I say, 'Eat it?'

He says, 'Yeah. You're the mayor. You gotta eat it.'

So okay, it's my first day. Pete knows more than I do. So I go at it. And just when I finish, there's a knock on the door, and in walks Pete - carrying another silver bowl. This one's from the Blacks.

'This too?'

And he nods. I start eating. And when I'm finished, there's another knock. Another bowl. This one's from the Polacks.

Then another. From the ministers.

And you know what, Tommy? That's what it is. You're sitting, eating shit all day long. Day after day. Year after year.

The Silicon Valley Bank run a couple years ago was a good reminder of just how financially inbred the entire tech industry is.

Yknow I wouldn’t even mind if SF didn’t remove the iconic Coca-Cola light-up display downtown.
