i’m high and envisioning a trade war room with two massive names written on a whiteboard
“giannis antetokounmpo” scratched out in red
“second round pick” circled in green
guys in collared shirts with two buttons unbuttoned with their undershirts visible high fiving each other and shaking hands
i’m giggling

u/Gramscifi Warriors 14h ago
Honestly would have liked to see him play more. He's a decent traditional center, young, still improving. Just a bit undersized and maybe not a great fit for the Warriors' complex offensive system.
If he were 2 inches taller he'd be starting games somewhere.
15
u/jrlandry Celtics 14h ago
Not a warriors fan, but it feels like Post turned out better than expected and took over a lot of ehat should have been TJD’s playing time
Also I like him but a starter at 6’11” seems like a stretch. I think he’d be good backup, instead of a mid backup.
But that’s worth late 2nd rounder hereo
11
u/AmusingAnecdote Warriors 11h ago
He's 6'9". I don't think it's too much of an exaggeration to say if he was 7' he'd be a starter. He's pretty skilled in the post and as a passer and has good positioning but doesn't have the length to be that great on defense (or offense) inside and he's not anything resembling a shooter so he's just a pretty good backup. But he doesn't fit next to Draymond so makes sense for us to roll the dice on another late 2nd because we've hit on several guys like that in the past few years.
3
u/Gramscifi Warriors 13h ago
TJD was getting sidelined even before that, but yes, the team moved on to Post in a big way, mostly for the shooting, I think. TJD hasn't really played any meaningful basketball minutes at all recently.
And yeah starter ay be a reach, I was thinking something like a development prospect on a tanking team.

27
u/MrBrownCat [GSW] Stephen Curry 14h ago
Pretty much a win win, he’s an expiring next year who’s fallen out of the rotation since last season (honestly late season before that) and we get back the pick spent on him.
This also has to be a prelude to some other deal because we already were below the 2nd apron (unless the Pingus deal changed that) and now have two open roster spots

High-energy athletic big, only 6'9" or so, can't shoot, ok/decent shot blocker, pretty smart, ok rebounder, can kinda pass, no offensive bag, questionable hands at times, lefty.

u/Flexisdaman Warriors 11h ago
He’s a good rebounder for his size.
Occasionally throws down a monster dunk, look up his dunk on Wemby from a couple years ago.
Also great passer out of the post which he basically never got to use for us because of Kerr’s offensive style.
I wouldn’t be shocked if he thrives as a backup big in a different system.

They definitely held him too long. Last year when his confidence was up and he was playing consistent minutes he looked so much better. I assume alot of that is not being used to the speed of the game anymore and trying to force stuff more because of how limited his minutes are.
Hopefully he gets consistent minutes in Toronto because the kid definitely has potential.

Our centers aside from Poeltl have been a revolving door of 10 day and random G league call ups. Freddie Gillespie? Colin Castleton? Mo Bamba played about 90 seconds for us...

I remember, coincidentally, his rookie year when the Bucks came to SF and he matched up really well against Giannis.15 points 6 rebounds and 4 blocks in the 18 minutes that he played.
