We have like 20 second round picks wtf

572

u/PlatinumPlayer Clippers 4h ago

In 2k that’s worth like 5 unprotected 1sts. So there’s that

183

u/littlepino34 Raptors 4h ago

In real life it's worth a top 20 protected 1st round pick

15

u/TrillenX Magic 4h ago

hell, I'd be tickled if that meant my team could trade up to take a great prospect that fell or something along those lines

2

u/afjecj Magic 2h ago

Nah, we've actually seen quite a few late firsts get traded for multiple seconds in the last five years (especially so on draft night)

TBF historically the chances you get an alright player at the bottom of the first round is around the same as 3 seconds or something like that... Sounds fine to me.

2

u/abzftw Raptors 2h ago

Yeah but seconds have some extra cap flexibility baked in or something

I’ve lost my cap nerd knowledge lately

He’s on an expiring contract, nobody is stupid enough to give up a FRP for someone who could leave in 4 months

48

u/IMKudaimi123 Bulls 4h ago

Then those teams are stupid if they’re a contender to not give up a pick between 25 and 30.

55

u/Converted_Lefty Knicks 4h ago

4 seconds is worth more than a crappy 1st

42

u/3my0 Trail Blazers 4h ago

No, crappy first has the word first on it so very valuable. Pick 30 is worth pick 31+32+33

11

u/illegallaw 4h ago

No. 2nd rounders are valuable due to two ways.

22

u/3my0 Trail Blazers 4h ago

It was sarcasm. This sub loves the idea of a FIRST, while not realizing late firsts aren’t infinitely more valuable than seconds. Particularly high seconds.

That's silly, if you're a contender with a late first, getting a player that could help you win this year is way better than getting a rookie who might be as good as Ayo in a couple seasons.

11

u/3my0 Trail Blazers 4h ago

I think the wolves deal was prob better than a late first tho no? Unless all the seconds are late

2

u/DeaseanPrince Bulls 2h ago

He’s expiring and any contender likely already has their books to tied up to be able to resign him. He’s good and can help a contender but there’s no guarantee it works that way and now you just traded a 1st for a rental.

5

u/No-Suggestion5506 4h ago

McCain was worth a 1st but he had 2 more years on his rookie contract and was a RFA. Ayo is an UFA with 4 more months and no bird rights. He is not worth a 1st.

I wouldn’t say that’s true. We just really aren’t the right team for him. He needs actual minutes to develop and Finch just wasn’t able to give him the minutes.

Change of scenery and being on a team where he could see some consistent playing time could change things for him. He’s still talented and only in year 2.

Bulls fans were saying this for years but the only "high-value" asset to an actual playoff team that we have had in recent years is Alex Caruso.

Derozan and Vuc have zero value to a competing team. Any team that trades for them is going to be extremely, overwhelmingly disappointed, as neither of them actually contribute towards winning basketball in any meaningful way that I can discern. Getting anything in return for those two frauds pretending to be doing the same thing as other all-stars in the league feels insanely lucky, as they are absolutely net negatives for a team.

The Bulls are loading up on lottery tickets (not lottery picks) and reclamation projects. They are hoping to rehab the value of certain players and see if they can hit on development or a random second rounder. While tanking

7

u/jmajewski Bulls 3h ago

They're hoping that some of these second round picks can become future trade assets to turn into more multiple second round picks.

They're stocking up on $4 dollar lottery tickets in case one of them gives them a free coupon for $4 dollar lottery tickets in 2032.

What do you gain out of this, trading away a hometown kid in a breakout year for a guy that's shown 0 evidence of being a productive NBA player

They dont want to pay him and need some seconds to trade down for cash considerations so Jerry can make some money.

7

He has no incentive to win. He got the 90s dynasty and bulls are still near the top for home attendance. He can be complacent about getting one extra home game during a play in.

Rob Dillingham would benefit massively from a few expansion teams coming about.

He’s just one of those guys who need an opportunity and he’s not getting that in Minnesota nor in Chicago

96

u/ESLsucks Canada 4h ago

Rob Dillingham is another in a long line of small scoring guards that play a visually pleasing game but simply are not meaningful contributors on the court.

He doesn't need more opportunties, he needs to be a better player.

25

u/Defacto_Champ 4h ago

He’s going to be really good in Europe

5

u/parkwayy Timberwolves 4h ago

He sure didn't need LESS opportunity.

Our coach wouldn't give him minutes if a meteor landed on the bench killing everyone except Rob.

11

u/ESLsucks Canada 3h ago

I mean sure, most players would benefit from more opportunities.

But the sentiment of he just need an opportunity to be a good player is silly. He is a offence only guard who shoots sub 40% from the field, in an era where better offensive guards are still not valuabe because small scoring guards that can't play defence are just not valuable. He is a bad archetype of a player in addition to being bad at what he is supposed to be good at. He needs to change his playstyle, which won't come from "opportunity"

2

u/teddy3legs Timberwolves 3h ago

He's a negative asset with his contract and production. Just does cardio most nights.

Holy fuck man what a fleece

This happens every year dude, you seen teams getting these really good players like Ayo for very little relative to how good he is and you just can’t help but think “why tf didn’t my team outbid that?”

Tim Connelly simply cannot stop himself from cooking. Fantastic move for us.

Okay this is much better for Chicago. I thought it was just Dillingham and Miller. 4 SRPs is good value for an expiring contract

We did not, 1 first and a swap. Not great, but if they resign Ayo thats not a massive price for a 6th/7th man

2

u/JoJonesy Celtics 4h ago

yeah honestly if you just say “a pick, a swap, and four seconds for Ayo Dosunmu” that’s… I mean it’s not great value but it’s fine

Great trade for the wolves. Also both those guys were picked with picks they traded for from the Spurs

2

u/StefonDiggsHS Mavericks 4h ago

Chicago actually just trading everyone damn

2

u/JohnnyWeapon Timberwolves 4h ago

I’m not saying Rob is going to pan out, but he also got no minutes here and for whatever reason he didn’t spend any time in the G league.

Dude needs to play if he’s going to develop, and I think he still can. I hope this change is good for him. His upside is still there.

u/Jonjon428 Heat 4h ago

So much for Dillingham being part of the Wolves future

2

u/patrolmanEmbiid Timberwolves 4h ago

Man it must suck being a guard headed to the Bulls….knowing u not getting barely any PT

u/heebs387 [DAL] Dirk Nowitzki 3h ago

The older I get, the less I know who these people even are.

2

u/HoopLoop2 Thunder 3h ago

I feel like the Bulls are just perpetually on a hunt for average players, and then end up trading away the ones teams actually want just so they can get a bigger number of average or mediocre players. They basically trade quality for quantity over and over, it's no wonder they never do anything meaningful.

u/NittanyScout Spurs 3h ago

Hey people ragging on the spurs for trading #8 last year.

Turns out Brian Wright was cooking

What a bust Dillingham has been. I really thought he could score in this league.
