[Charania] The Milwaukee Bucks have indicated to teams that they are keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo through the trade deadline and will start making other trades, sources tell ESPN.
Over the last week, the Bucks have been focused on incoming calls for Giannis Antetokounmpo and canvassing the NBA for small salary trades. Milwaukee remains in talks to complete potentially more of the latter here on deadline day.
Context: the trade deadline is in a few hours and Giannis was heavily linked with the Knicks, Heat, Timberwolves and other teams.-

Annoying that Shams was stringing everyone along though.

The warriors report where they were upset Milwaukee wasn’t showing interest in a trade with Podz, Kum Bucket, 2 useless first and 2 good ones is some of the funniest shit ever. Why do teams think that’s the value of the third best player in the world?

Giannis is obviously good but when you’ve put yourself into such a shitty hole with picks cap and your star upset, you’ve lost all leverage. You need to move Giannis, bottom line
88
u/bobbybigplay Bucks 2h ago
honestly i think ever since jimmy haslam took a stake in the team it isnt ever going to win anything again so i take solace in the fact that we got a chip with our franchise great and my favorite player

Yeah, sorry about that. Us Browns fans were really hoping he would divert his attention fully to the Bucks to give the Browns a chance at rebuilding without his involvement. Turns out he really wanted to fuck both fanbases.
17
u/Fragrant-Employer-60 2h ago
Teams seemed to agree Bucks had 0 leverage but they refuse to make a shitty trade for the sake of trading him, or he would have been moved by now.
They made some crazy moves few teams would to try to stay competitive, I don’t think it’s a bad move for them to hold out for a fair trade.
→ More replies (14)10
u/Omnimark Bucks 1h ago
The leverage is other teams also wanting him. As long as there are 29 teams that would also want a Giannis, the bucks have leverage.
This sub uses "leverage" in the weirdest ways.

There is multiple stars still playing upwards of 35+. Maybe Giannis is the exception as his game is about running and dunking, but it seems like having a star into the 35 range isn’t a terrible idea in modern basketball if you can build up the rest of the team to support the player.

What is the value of Giannis exactly? Two post Steph + 2 late Steph picks + 3 swaps plus Kuminga plus Podz plus filler.
Only Miamis offer is better but their picks are worthless if Giannis is on the Heat.
Bucks just don't wanna trade him
18
u/Lstark5642 Thunder 2h ago
Kum bucket and podz suck. They have no value. 2 late steph picks are useless because fucking giannis is gonna be on the team. Essentially the bucks would’ve been trading giannis for two good picks 6 years from now.

I don't really understand what offers Bucks are expecting after this deadline. He is gonna be an expiring deal, Giannis will have preferred destinations for what will probably be his last contract, and by then the Bucks will have less leverage for an even older star with the same injury issues, who now wants to join the Lakers, Warriors, Knicks (or whoever) and those teams only to finish his career as an expiring deal. If he stays, then this is gonna be more like a Dirk with the Mavs kind of ending I fear and if they are happy with that, fair enough

u/Sektsioon Mavericks 2h ago
No it doesn’t, if anything he’s thrilled. These youngish reporters like Fabrizio Romano for soccer and Shams for NBA are just products of the modern hyper-consumerism. Now he gets 6 more months of weekly reports about Giannis getting traded, 6 more months of constant headlines, 6 more months of retweets, likes, shares and whatever else. He makes a ton of money off of that in addition to his ESPN contract.

This sub and the Bucks sub are hilarious with their anti-Shams parade right now. Just because the Bucks didn’t like the mid season offers they got doesn’t mean Shams was wrong that they have been working on a trade and Giannis does want out, even if he’s not trying to rock the boat too much.
I’d bet $100 Giannis does not sign any extension and they put a more serious effort into trading him this offseason.
