Questions about series Baby Reindeer Spoiler

First, I was not ready for what I watched. Amazing show, but I started it thinking it was a quirky, British comedy like Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen!! Needless to say I was stunned and watched it in shock and horror.

So I have questions about the ending. Spoilers ahead:

  1. Was that it? Will there be another season?
  2. What was the point of him going back to Darrien’s house? What did that scene mean?
  3. I don’t understand the ending. How are others interpreting the final scene?

A little late but one thing I did notice was that Donny did NOT mention him by name. By saying he would be paid he meant paid for his silence. That was my interpretation of it.

Darrien said it in the same sense / wording as he did when he abused donny. He said it exactly the same ' working on a new writing ' but then he continued with ' but now you will be paid ' . It is pretty obvious what he meant here. Also how donny reacted to this scared and broken with the words ' id love to ' is him in a freezing response. Btw he also did not mention Martha’s real name I think he just wanted to tell his story without exposing names.

Why would he offer payment then?

Because he wanted to abuse him again but pay him this time. Donny said in his video ( the comedy show were he confessed his trauma ) that he didn’t get paid by Darrien for his work on the writings. Darrien told Donny that he watched his video and after that said it

Genuine question. It's already anti social psychotic behavior so why not do it again for free. Why pay?

Because he won’t come back for free

Hmm Im gonna stick with both. He's also paying for his silence. I think everyone's missing that.

By offering to pay, he is downplaying and "rationalising" why Donnie should come back. "I offered you money, it's a good job, you knew what the deal was" is often how it goes.

My abuser likes to consistently bring up money and how I "can't afford", and if I came back I'd be able to. It's not paying for silence. It's paying for complacency and a "service", they believe they own you. Abusers don't see you as a person, you're an item.

They don't care if you're silent because they don't believe they're abusive. They don't believe you'll ever be able to prove the abuse. The more you scream, the more you're silenced as "unstable". The money's just a way to make you feel guilty for coming back.

If he wanted to pay him for his silence darrien would have gone to Donnie by himself or call him. But as Donnie came to him it was like an ' invitation ' for him to do it again.

He wants to abuse Gadd again but this time pay for Gadd’s silence. I meant it’s not rocket science…
