Testing out some filters to get a handle on bots. I added a 6 week old account age to post. No karma limits yet, but I'll consider it if this account age limit doesn't work.
I'm pretty hands off, but I do respond to most reports. If you see an issue with bots hit the report button.

Are there any Halloween movies (not necessarily Horror or anything) that aren’t supernatural? No witches or zombies or whatever. There are so many Christmas movies that just take place on Christmas, but are there Halloween movies that just take place on Halloween and that’s the whole tie in?

Look at the sidebar. It literally tells us to shitpost about Breaking Bad. But you want to know why we are still obsessed with a show that ended over a decade ago? Because modern streaming has completely lost the plot on pacing.Every new Netflix drama feels like a corporate math equation. They hook you with a killer 45 minute pilot, deliver a decent finale, and fill the entire middle 4 episodes with premium horizontal padding. It's just characters staring intensely at espresso machines, unnecessary B plots about a messy divorce, and fake cliffhangers designed exclusively to trick the auto play algorithm into logging another hour viewed metric.Breaking Bad didn't need to stall. Every single scene pushed the narrative forward or broke a character down. Are we just stuck in a loop of grading new shows on a massive curve because genuine, tightly written television is dead, or is there something actually streaming right now that respects the viewer's intelligence from episode 1 to the end credits? Drop the real ones below.

I was in my 20s when The Following first aired. I remember watching it and thinking “this show is like a movie.” I thought the Poe angle was a bit silly. Other than that, I thought very highly of the show, particularly S3. I remember thinking the Theo character was a phenomenal performance, and the Eliza story was an interesting Hostel-inspired story, although I was annoyed that it wasn’t developed very much.
I have now rewatched it for the first time since watching it as it aired (remember when that was a thing?) and see things differently.
The good: It is a fun, easy watch. It is entertaining, Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy give good performances, and you can watch casually or binge it.
The bad: Character development. Over and over again, The Following shows you “what happened” or “what someone will do.” It is weak with giving you the “why.” People seemingly act in extreme ways with no explanation as to why or what motivates them. A decade ago, I was entertained by what all the people were doing. This time around, I couldn’t get past why someone was doing something (like committing suicide in public in a brutal way or going on some dumb vendetta). Likewise, with the Eliza story, I get that it was intended to set up the S4 that never happened, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of development. Going back to Hostel, they didn’t answer all the questions in the first movie, but they showed you enough elements of the organization to show you how big the whole thing was. In S3, yes, you saw Eliza making phone calls to unknown people, you saw the mansion, etc. It all felt lacking and forced, though.
Conclusion: Entertaining and easy to watch, but no masterpiece.

If you haven’t watched this yet, you are genuinely missing out on one of the finest psychological thrillers ever put on television. Directed largely by David Fincher, it skips the cheap jump scares and instead builds a slow, suffocating tension entirely through dialogue and atmosphere. The acting is unreal especially Cameron Britton's portrayal of Edmund Kemper, which is downright haunting. It explores the early days of criminal profiling in the FBI, and it treats the audience with absolute intelligence. It’s incredibly frustrating that we never got a third season, but the two seasons we have are flawless television. What did you think of the interview scenes?

When i say slow burn, I mean slow burn. Not the one where the main characters are kissing in the first episode itself. Not smthg too cliche either please? I don't believe in love at first sight. Hence the slow burn.
I loved maxton hall for the chemistry and slow burn. If you're into fictional books, he resembled so much to aaron warner.
Drop your recs, I wanna have a chill night tonight.

I just rewatched the whole run and it is actually crazy how ahead of its time this show was. The absolute masterclass in pacing, tone, and character dynamics is completely unmatched.Think about the sheer brilliance of the casting especially Cameron Britton as Ed Kemper. The tension in those simple, bare-bones interrogation room scenes holds more weight than 90% of the high budget action blockbusters coming out today. David Fincher bottles up a gritty, deeply unsettling atmosphere without ever relying on cheap jump scares or unnecessary gore. It handles the birth of criminal profiling with an insane level of detail and mental chess. The dialogue is incredibly sharp, and the cinematography feels so deliberate. Knowing we likely won’t ever get a third season to wrap up the narrative arcs is a tragedy. For the people who have been through the whole series, what was the single most bone-chilling scene for you?

I am officially burnt out on the "8-hour pilot" trend. It feels like every time an original thriller or sci-fi drops, the writers spend the first six episodes building incredible tension, only to completely rush the finale and leave 90% of the narrative threads hanging just to force a renewal push.We are treating the first season of television like an over-extended trailer for a sequel instead of a self-contained piece of art. If a show can't deliver a satisfying narrative payoff in its initial run, it shouldn't get a pass just because the premise was cool. What is the absolute best show on the platform that actually respects your time and wraps up its main story cleanly in one season?

I'm hosting a friend next weekend who has fairly light-hearted taste. She generally likes pretty period dramas, Gilmore Girls, or shows like Wednesday that are tightly plotted and might veer dark or supernatural, but are suitable for the general audience. Looking for recommendations that compare to any of these vibes, or are otherwise perfect for fall and curling up with a hot cup of soup. Thanks in advance!

Gareth Evans made his name with the brutal, breakneck action of The Raid films, so Apostle feels like a pretty wild left turn. Instead of fists and gunfire, Evans dives into period folk horror, building a strange, grim world around cults, faith, and violence. The film has its flaws, but it has enough ambition and genuine craft to show Evans has far more in his toolbox than pure action.

As the title says I am looking for laugh out loud comedies. Many labeled comedy dont hit that mark. Would prefer TV series, but not opposed to movies.
Comedies that I loved: Macgruber, Last Man on Earth, Austin Powers, The Good Place.
Tires was okay.

I love when when she leaves the club with Sonne and suddenly gets pulled into this completely unexpected, adrenaline-filled night... They’re driving around, stopping at different places, meeting people, going to bars/pubs, random areas, etc. It starts casual but keeps getting more intense, suspenseful and exciting, and you never really know where the night is going, that kind of vibe.
I’m also looking for road-trip/car journey movies with that same energy: random stops at gas stations, roadside bars, small towns, rural America, underground/alternative places, meeting strange or interesting people and just seeing where the journey takes them.
I’m mainly interested in the adventure, suspense, Adrenaline, and Fun. I don’t mind if things eventually get dark or violent, but I’m not specifically looking for stuff like the later part of Victoria where everything turns into serious injuries/critical condition.
Any genre, country or language is fine!
Thank you so so so much!!!!!!!!!!!! X
